1 Objective 11(26k):Evaluate factors that influence voters and nonvoters such as education, political socialization, income, age, registration, and apathy.

3  College graduates vote for republicans in higher percentages than high school graduates  High school graduates vote Republican more often than those who have only gone through grade school Education

4  Higher income voters tend to be republican.  People with lower income vote for Democratic Income

5  Younger voters have been more likely to be Democrats than Republicans  The 26 th Amendment declares the minimum age for voting in any election at more than 18. Age

6 Registration  This is a procedure of voter identification intended to prevent fraudulent voting.  Gives election officials a list of those persons who are qualified to vote in an election

8 Non-Voters  Non voters are sometimes ill or physical disabled. Some are in Prisons or cannot vote because of religious beliefs.  At least ten million are resident alien.  Non voters tend to be younger than thirty, unmarried, or unskilled.

10 Political Socialization  Political socialization involves all of the experiences and relationships that lead people to see the political world and to act in it as they do.

11 Apathy  Voting is a religious act, each citizen must come to believe that despite the thousands of elections that are not decided by one vote, his or her vote does not make a difference. It is that faith that needs to be restored
