San Jacinto College - Has been in existence for over 50 years - Has three campuses serving 30,000 students North Campus – Uvalde & Wallisville Central Campus – Spencer Highway South Campus – Beamer Road - With over 200 degree and certificate options.

To support the needs of the fourth largest city in America with the #1 Port in Foreign Tonnage as well as total Tonnage and the #2 port in U.S. Imports – The Port of Houston The Port of Houston listed a total in vessel movements at 247,786 in 2012, with over 8000 ships annually moving through the Port. The Port of Houston works with over 150 private companies providing over 45,000 jobs locally, over 785,000 nationally which provides more than 39 billion dollars in personal income. Why We Need a Maritime Program

Industry training demands across the Houston region are rising in preparation for the 2015-16 expansion of the Panama Canal. Less than 1 percent of the workforce is in their 20s. More than half of workers nearing retirement age. The need to certify more mariners is urgent. Employment in water transportation occupations within the Gulf Coast region is expected to increase by almost 22 percent in the next six years. Continued

San Jacinto College began offering maritime training in a leased facility along highway 225 in May 2010, in partnership with Mid-Atlantic maritime Academy. College offerings: –Associate of Applied Science in International Business, Maritime and Logistics, with partnerships with local universities. –Articulation agreement with Texas A&M University at Galveston for the Maritime Administration program. –Meeting industry need for "more well-rounded, advanced entry-level mariners" through the Associate of Applied Science degree in Maritime Transportation. San Jacinto College helps mariners keep their US Coast Guard (USCG) certifications and licenses up-to-date due to updated technology and new maritime policy. San Jacinto College has awarded more than 3200 certificates for USCG-approved training to members of the local maritime industry. Top five popular USCG-required courses are: Basic Safety Training, Tankerman PIC (Person in Charge), RADAR Unlimited, Proficiency in Survival Craft (Lifeboat), and Apprentice Mate – Steersman. Coast Guard Approved Training Required to begin a career at sea. Required to maintain a career at sea. Required to advance a career at sea. San Jacinto College Maritime Program provides this USCG Approved Training with over 40 classes currently offered. When Maritime Engineering classes are added there will be over 80 USCG approved courses at San Jacinto College..
