SimNet Simrad Intelligent Marine Network
4
Standard Interfacing NMEA183 - single transmitter multiple receivers
Point to point connection One receiver can only listen to one transmitter Complicated installation Complicated setup
5
SimNet Integration Objectives: Easy installation
Automatic system setup Unlimited data sharing A solution for the future
6
SimNet Network
7
What is SimNet ? Simrad intelligent marine Network
A complete intelligent network system for easy installation and integration of marine electronics Easy installation Easy setup - Plug and Play approach Reliable data transfer NMEA2000 compatible. SimNet
8
SimNet Specifications
Based on CAN bus, Controller Area Network, from the automotive industry and NMEA2000 Up to 50 products in one system (Up to 250 network adresses) Signal rate: 250 Kbit/sec. 50 times faster than NMEA183 Maximum total SimNet cable length: 120 (+30) meter Maximum current: 5 Amps Guaranteed transfer of priority data Automatic source selection Automatic multi source management Ready made cable and plug system
9
Cable and Plug System Highly innovative cable and plug system !
Thin cables with small 9 mm plugs, easy to run Watertight, IP66 Ready made cables Accessories readily available from shop stands 3 year active use in the field
10
Competing plug and cable systems
NavNet Must use a Hub – star coupled Complicated to configure Not water proof Not NMEA2000 compatible SeaTalk2 Large and bulky plugs Not NMEA2000 compatible No support for multiple sources NMEA2000 Expensive plug and cable system Two connector sizes approved Drop cable only (No Daisy chaining) The winner is SimNet Control

Network Considerations
Remember ! Proper network installation and termination is important ! 12 or 15VDC 24V, V 240V
23
Good SimNet Installation
Run SimNet cable separated from power cables (110/240V or 12/24V) Pay special attention to cables supplying high currents. (electrical motors, radar's, thrusters….) It is recommended to secure long SimNet cables max. 50 cm (20”) from the SimNet plug. Max. Cable length 120 m (400’) including drop cables. Single drop cable max. 6 meter (20’) - total drop cable length max. 60 meters (200’)
