2. About Us Dunoon Baptist Church is a small but enthusiastic church on the West Coast of Scotland. We are part of the Baptist Union of Scotland and really welcome diverse people. Our worship services can be quite varied with people from 13 to 97 involved in leading services, but the welcome is always friendly. We have a small Sunday School and have tea and coffee after our services. We like consistent Bible teaching and our Bible series are available online.. Our motto is ‘worshipping, working and witnessing for God in the community.’ Our Pastor and Leadership Team Our Pastor is Dr. Alan Wright, who is from Northern Ireland. He has a PhD in Wave Energy and has studied lots of things. He has done a variety of jobs including being a Youth Pastor and doing Community Outreach Work. He teaches methodically through Bible passages and plays sport in his spare time. Our leadership team is made up of men and women from different backgrounds, including a Nigerian Doctor, an award winning vet, a Coffee House entrepreneur, a teacher, a car mechanic and a retired community youth worker. That diversity ensures that we welcome ideas and new people to our church community. About Dunoon Dunoon is a beautiful Clydeside town and the church is right at the heart of it. As a Gateway to the Highlands the Cowal Peninsula has stunning views of mountains and lochs. The weather changes rapidly and rainbows are common. We adjust quickly to the weather and to new people too. It’s only an hour from Glasgow but when you step off the ferry it feels a world apart. Did you know Oswald Chambers went to Bible College in Dunoon? Programmes We have a busy little church that is hired out by various clubs and groups, but we have a lot of projects ourselves. There‘s usually something on at 6.30 on a Sunday night. The first Sunday of the month is Cafe Church in Seasons, the last is Holy Ground, an interactive service where people share and get involved. Each other Sunday night is a youth night, although all are welcome. We have ladies Bible Study on a Monday morning and usually a keep fit class after. There are home groups on Monday and Wednesday and an adult Bible class on Sunday mornings. We have been trying to develop a club for men on the last Thursday of each month and also run a youth discipleship programme and a Ladies night called Reach on Thursdays. Friday night is youth club with eXp. Partners and Projects All the churches in the local area work together which is very positive. We run programmes for Easter, Christmas and the Cowal Highland Games and throughout the year. The eXp group is the local Church of Scotland youth wing and we are happy to share the youth club with them. We also partner with xpand, a group who do leadership training and development across Europe. They run a programme called the Life College where young adults come from across Europe for 9 months to develop their futures. We also have a variety of Missions partners across the world. We are also developing a Youth and Community project called Gateway. We are doing youth and community projects and raising money to build a new purpose-built centre in our town.
