26 April 121 – 17 March 180 AD He was Roman Emperor from 161 to 180 He was the last of the Five Good Emperors, and is also considered one of the most important Stoic philosophers.

Marcus Aurelius kept the empire safe from the Parthians and Germans, but is best known for his intellectual pursuits. He wrote several books including Meditations, which he wrote (in Greek) during a campaign between 170 and 180 AD.

Meditations is a book of passages from one sentence to long paragraphs in length. These passages are about not indulging in emotions, because by letting your emotions over power you that other people can harm you. He wrote that instead of living by emotions one should live by reason so that one can not be deceived by ideas about what is right and what is wrong.

Marcus Aurelius was Emperor from 161 to 180 A.D his reign marks the beginning of the long slow decline of the Empire He ruled with Lucius Verus as co-emperor from 161 until Verus' death in 169. He was the last of the Five Good Emperors
