Nick Carraway is the narrator of the story. Nick moved from the West. He is Gatsby’s neighbor in West Egg, however, he is very poor. Nick attended Yale with Tom Buchanan and is Daisy’s cousin.

Jay Gatsby lives in West Egg and is extremely wealthy. Each week he throws extravagant parties but manages to stay mysterious in the eyes of his guests. Gatsby is in love with Daisy Buchanan.

Jordan Baker is a professional golfer. She is a close friend of Daisy and Tom. Jordan knows everything about everyone but is known to be dishonest.

Myrtle Wilson lives in the “Valley of Ashes” with her husband George Wilson. She is very poor and not very bright. Myrtle is having an affair with Tom Buchanan.

Tom Buchanan lives in East Egg with his wife, Daisy. He is very wealthy and comes from “old money”. Tom is having an affair with Myrtle and is abusive to her.

Daisy Buchanan is Tom’s wife. She has a daughter. Daisy is very unhappy with her marriage and is secretly seeing Jay Gatsby.
