1 The Children & Young People’s Plan CYPP Jim ForemanLead Member - Children & Young People Our Vision “Our young people will have new hope because they will have a bright future. People of all ages will have high aspirations, great confidence and the skills and opportunities they need to succeed. People will be healthy, able to find work and will enjoy living here. Our reputation for excellence in service to communities will be widely recognised and South Tyneside will be playing a full role in contributing to a thriving and prosperous region.”

2 How will the plan cover the 5 outcomes? Be Healthy We will work towards this objective by measuring 20 indicators in: Reducing teenage pregnancies, obesity in children and young people, alcohol consumption, smoking and illegal drug use Improving physical health, mental and emotional health, sexual health Encouraging healthy lifestyles Increasing access to health care

3 How will the plan cover the 5 outcomes? Stay Safe We will work towards this objective by measuring 16 indicators in: Reducing the number of looked after children, bullying and discrimination, crime and anti-social behaviour, maltreatment, neglect, violence and sexual exploitation, accidental injury and death Providing effective support for looked after children, vulnerable children and children in need Supporting families to provide a stable, secure and caring home

4 How will the plan cover the 5 outcomes? Positive Contribution We will work towards this objective by measuring 12 indicators in: Increasing children and young people’s participation and engagement and supporting development of positive relationships and reducing bullying and discrimination Providing opportunities for children and young people to support, and be supported by, the community Encouraging law-abiding and positive behaviour, and developing enterprising behaviour Supporting children and young people in dealing with significant life changes and challenges

5 How will the plan cover the 5 outcomes? Enjoy and Achieve We will work towards this objective by measuring 38 indicators in: Improving attendance in schools, progression and transition, and supporting the achievement of stretching national education standards Providing places to go, things to do for young people Ensuring children are ready for school Encouraging high aspirations and recognising achievements Supporting children and young people with different abilities and / or who have particular needs

6 How will the plan cover the 5 outcomes? Economic Well Being We will work towards this objective by measuring 8 indicators in: Increasing 16-18 year olds in education, training or employment Reducing the number of children affected by financial exclusion Helping young people to be ready for employment and work-ready Providing access to decent affordable housing Providing access to affordable transport

June to August 2006 - Publication of and consultation on the Spring Draft September 2006 - CYPP renewal events for partners; publication of Autumn draft, including findings from the APA October to December 2006 - Consultation on the Autumn draft January 2007 - CYPP renewal events to include findings from CPA; Publication of the Winter draft January to March 2007 - Consultation on the Winter draft April 2007 - Publication of the Children and Young People’s Plan
