LHC-OPN operations Roberto Sabatino LHC T0/T1 networking meeting Amsterdam, 31 January 2006

NREN GEANT2 T1 T0 Who is going to have a complete overview of this setup ? Who will be able to identify a fault ? How would fault fixing and reporting be co-ordinated? How is change management dealt with ? And what about the LHC OPN ? as defined in the architecture document and limited in scope to the interconnection of T0 and T1s ? No view of T2s What are we trying to solve ?

Relevant EGEE work on operations GGUS: Global Grid User Support –supporting EGEE and LCG ENOC: Network Co-ordination Service as documented in the EGEE documentation –Looks after network issues for EGEE and LCG –Receives network TTs from NRENs, interfaces with user (the LCG).

Relevant work in GN2 e2e lightpaths The GN2 JRAs (JRA4 and JRA3) are looking at aspects of monitoring the status of lightpaths NREN GEANT2 T1 T0

E2e status monitoring Done in GN2 JRA4, led by DFN Each NREN working on methods to extract status info out of their own equipment Interface with perfSONAR (GN2 JRA1) Collating info from each NREN Weathermap-style view

Outside GN2 ? ESnet committed to perfSONAR and e2e lightpath status monitoring Canarie committed to lightpath status monitoring for LHC purposes Taiwan and lhcnet TBC

Other work in GN2 Operational processes between NOCs and e2e NOC –Can re-use many concepts from ATM days in TEN- 155 TTs: should a standard format to exchange TT info between NOCs be devised ? How to correlate TTs ? (some work on scheduled maintenance from ESnet/Joe Metzeger) database re multidomain setup of lightpaths;

Putting GN2 and EGEE work together for LHC The ENOC (EGEE NOC) is the function performed by the GGUS to offer a network co-ordination service. The ENOC will use tools developed by GN2 JRA4 –Will enable ENOC to locate a network problem –ENOC can co-ordinate TTs and fault resolution

Timelines EGEE work already defined –Pilot to send network TTs from NRENs to ENOC already underway GN2 work in progress, results expected between now and May

Next Steps Intensify liaison EGEE-SA2 and GN2 –Meeting set at DANTE on Feb 8 th TAIWAN and lhcnet
