Bell Ringer 01/29/15 What type of reproduction occurs when an organism divides into two identical living things?

Seven Levels of Classification
Classification is a system used to arrange organisms into groups based on similarities. The study of classification of organisms is known as Taxonomy. Level Mnemonic Device Kingdom BROAD SPECIFIC Phylum Class Order EQ: How do scientists classify living things? Family Genus FRONT FRONT LEFT FOLD RIGHT FOLD Species YOUR NAME HERE!

Seven Levels of Classification
6. GENUS 1. KINGDOM Inside of foldable Draw &Fill in pyramid 7. SPECIES BROAD SPECIFIC 2. PHYLUM Write the descriptions of each level in the correct location. SCIENTIFIC NAME: 3. CLASS 4. ORDER 5. FAMILY
4
Kingdom Broadest Group
Placement is based on ability to make food and number of cells The Kingdom is divided into 5 groups: Plants, Animals, Protists, Fungi, Monerans 1. Kingdom Kingdom Example:
5
Plants are divided into 2 groups or (Phyla): Vascular and Non-Vascular.
Animals are divided into 35 different Phyla: Vertebrates and Invertebrates. 2. Phylum 1. Kingdom Phylum Example:

Class, Order & Family As each level becomes more specific
fewer organisms will have more in common with each other 3. Class 4. Order 5. Family 1. 2. Class, Order & Family
7
Genus (genera) The organisms are closely related in this level.
The genus is the first word in the scientific name. 1. Genus (genera) 2. 6. Genus
8
Organisms are all the same type and have the ability to breed and produce young offspring of the same kind. Species is the second word in a scientific name. Species
9
Scientific Name Universal name for an organism made up from the genus and species levels. ALWAYS written in italics with the genus capitalized (Ex: Genus species) Species name is not capitalized. EX: Wolf Canis lupus ; Loblolly Pine Pinus taeda

When you are finished with foldable….
Make sure your name is on it and place it into the class bucket. Turn to your next blank page and write at the top of the page: “The 5 kingdom Groups”. NEATLY trace an outline of your hand. FLIP TO Next slide and complete in your notebooks.
