Body Mass Index BMI- Weight and Height Measurements Healthy Weight: 18.5-24.9 Overweight: 25-29.9 Obese: 30 + Underweight: >18.5

Body Mass Index Used for adults ONLY Children and adolescences still growing Not the best way to assess weight because it does not take body composition into account

Skinfold Test Used to evaluate whether excess body weight is due to fat or muscle Caliper Pinch Test- <2.5 cm= excess fat

Waist-to-Hip Ratio Location of excess fat Some deposits are more directly linked with health risk Apple-shaped: carry more weight around their middle Pear-shaped: carry more weight around hips and thighs Apple > Pear = Apple poses greater health risk

Waist-to-Hip Ratio Formula: Waist at narrowest point / Hips at fullest point Increased Health Risk: Over 1.0 in men Over.85 in women
