2. Qualification for a Registered Architect in Korea
2.1 Qualification for license exam Practical experience: min. three years of practical experience in architect’s office or total min. 5 years of practical experience with foreign license Academic requirement: min. 8 school terms to be finished in accredited 5 year program Person who has min. 5 years of practical experience in architect’s office who passed preliminary exam for architect’s license 2.2 License upon Professional Qualification Examination 2.3 Registration to KARB required to renew every 5 years with min. 60 hours of CPD

3.3 Sustainable Architecture Academy KIRA has successfully managed the Sustainable Architecture Academy since 2009 to foster design professionals on green architecture. 40 Architects completed as 17th Curriculums in 2015 Number of graduates: 1,113 persons (as of 2015) 3.4 Han-Ok(Korean Traditional House) design Academy Since 2012, KIRA offers a new education course for training Hanok architects under the sponsorship of MOLIT. This training course consists of lectures, online education, design studio, workshops and seminars during 6months. A total of 134 architects are being completed as of 2015

5. Major Activities 5.1 Korean Architect Registration Board (KARB)
KIRA KARB(Korea Architects Registration Board) systematically manages the candidates’ professional development, registration and renewal of licensed architects, and continuing education of registered architects, all of which is commissioned to KIRA (Korea Institute of Registered Architects), based on Architects’ Act, Article 38, Clause 3, Item 2. KIRA KARB’s goal is to comprehensively and systematically manage the entire qualification process of architects, from practical training of candidates to professional activities after getting registered. 5.2 Research for Standard Agreement Form Analyze domestic and foreign contracts Research domestic and foreign architects standard contracts Research domestic architects contracts and dispute cases Develop standard agreement form of architectural design services and examine how to utilize it.

5. Major Activities 5.3 Research on Architects’ Fee Scale

Result of research has published in 2015 5.4 KIRA KAAB (Korea Architects Accreditation Board) Operated 166 Continuing Education Curriculums for Architect’s Professional Practice in 2013 Total number of 25,495 architects were trained 449 times with 9 different operations

5. Major Activities 5.5 Architectural Service Industry Promotion Act
Proclamation : June 4, 2013 Enforcement : June 5, 2014 To promote architectural design competition for the development of a design standard. To foster young talented architects To have standard contract form for fair business To protect the Professional knowledge by the active support of the national and local governments To promote the standardization for design information, design guideline, drawing, material and ordering system of an architects. In order to build up the infrastructure of an architectural design service. To protect the intellectual property rights of architectural design and new technology, and erect, implement the standard of design contract To protect the intellectual property rights of architectural design and new technology, and erect, implement the standard of design contract. Appointment of the architectural service promotion facility for the building which a number of architect’s office gather Ordering system and enforcement of the right for architects Establishment of Architecture Promotion Agency To support the tax benefit for architectural service industry

5. Major Activities 5.6 Experiencing Architecture for Children
KIRA has a plan to manage the 4th Architecture Creative Class and Hanok experience event for children as an annual project. It is expected to inform our excellence of architectural culture and improve the image of architecture, develop creativity through the children to experience and explore the traditional wooden structure. Period : 6 – 7 November 2015 Co sponsored by KIRA and Presidential Commission on Architecture Policy

6.1 ARCASIA Presidents’ Forum & ARCASIA Zone C Meeting KIRA was hosted the ARCASIA Zone C Meeting on plan for ARCASIA in Date : 23 October, 2014 Venue : KIRA Headquarters Participants : AAM/ASA/ASC/ALACE (Member institutes of ARCASIA) 6.2 The 17th Korea China Japan Registered Architects Organizations Meeting The 2014 Annual 3 Countries Meeting was hosted by KIRA. National Administration Board of Architectural Registration of P.R.C, NABAR and Japan Federation of Architects and Building Engineers Associations, JFABEA delegates attended at this meeting in KOREA. 6.3 APEC Architects Project History Oct : MLTM entrust KIRA Oct : KIRA organized Architect Monitoring Committee Dec : Commenced the registration work Jan : Launched APEC Architect Project in Korea Oct : Central Council Meeting, Wellington. NZ Committee : Chair Kim, Chi Tok(Advisor) and 9 members Members : 199 APEC Architects are being registered as of March, 2014. MOU in progress with other member Countries: None

7. Other Activities 7.1 Seoul International Architecture Film Festival
Annual event which enhances public awareness of architecture as part of culture. Period : 28 October-November 3rd, 2015 Venue : Art House MOMO at Ehwa Womans University, Seoul Event : Hosted Architect’s Forum, Conversation with Guests 7.2 Publication: KIRA’s Periodicals KIRA has been publishing monthly magazine Architect since and 11,000 copies are distributed to KIRA members and governmental organizations. KIRA also publishes a newspaper, Architectural Culture News, in every another weeks from the year of 2006 Magazine : Published 11,000 copies at time, 12 times annually Newspaper : Published 11,000 copies at time, 24 times annually

7. Other Activities 7.3 Publication: The 50th Anniversary of founding KIRA In 2015, KIRA celebrates its 50th anniversary of foundation. A special publication will be issued in an over 500 page hard cover book. 7.4 Exhibition: 2015 Korea Architecture Fair and Festival (KAFF) Period : 20 – 23 October, 2015 (4 days) Venue : COEX, Seoul Participants - 100 Companies participated with 250 booth - Number of Visitors : Approx. 23,000 (Outstanding Materials of the year of 2014 are recommended)

7. Other Activities 7.5 2015 Korean Architecture Award
Period : 5 November, 2015 Venue : Grand Hall, KIRA Headquarters Established in 1994 Hosted by the MOLIT and KIRA Goals : to find good architecture and encourage architects, clients and contractors for better architectural environments The highest architectural award program in Korea with presidential awards in 4 different categories Category : Completed Building / Planning & Design

7. Other Activities 7.6 Korea Rising Architects Award
Under the sponsorship of MOLIT, KIRA organizes Korea Rising Architects Award to publicize young architects and promote their entry to the market. It is open to all architects who are under 10 years from being qualified and have more than 1 complete work. Period : November. 4th, 2014 Venue : aT Center, Seoul For Architects under the 45years old who registered as Professional Practice The MOLIT awards the Award, publishes the Anthology and hosts an exhibition of publicity and promotional support businesses. Additionally, the winner will take part of the Jury/ Advisor in the next academic competition or pilot projects which organize by MOLIT and The Central Architecture of the Commission.

1) Legal Background: Architecture Fundamental Law 2) Major goals - enhancing architecture culture - enhancing public awareness of importance of architecture 3) Main activities - Overviews on large scale public projects in Seoul - City Architect System adopted in 2014: Ar. Seung Hyo Sang - Operating Public Architect System: 163 public architects in 3 categories; young, design excellence and MP group - Seoul Architecture Forum: Established in November 2015 as a none profit organization
