AT THIS MOMENT THE CURRENT YEAR 13 STUDENTS ARE IN THIS POSITION: 144 students in Year 13 122 have applied to University through UCAS 11 have applied for an Art Foundation 13 students have agreed gap year plans or plan to take up apprenticeships/other courses- all are receiving continued guidance. 66% have offers from Russell Group universities A further 11% have offers from 1994 group universities 4 offers at Oxford/Cambridge

5. The Sixth Form Curriculum A wide range of courses including A/AS Levels, BTEC Level 3 and the Extended Project Qualification. NEW – From September 2015 there were new AS Levels taught: Art and Design; Biology; Chemistry; Computing; Economics; English Literature; History; Photography; Physics; Psychology; Sociology. NEW - From September 2016 Drama and Theatre Studies, French, Geography, Mathematic Religous Studies, Spanish. BTEC: Business, Performing Arts, and Sport

6. The difference between old & new A/s Level The new AS (Advanced Subsidiary) level is a stand-alone qualification examined at the end of the first year. The grade you achieve for this qualification will not count towards your final A level grade. The old AS qualification is taken at the end of the first year and will count towards 50% of your A level mark. It is possible to take an AS qualification without going on to complete the full A Level

8. Choose the right subjects What do you enjoy? Bear in mind plans for university and life after Sixth Form Taster Day – Monday 4 July 2016 Taster lessons to support students to make the right subject choices. Summer homework Summer homework will let students know if they really like a subject. This will be available on the website in July. Be realistic - GCSE results don’t lie! GCSE Results Day– Thursday 25 August 2016. You must submit your results to us before 2pm.

9. What if I want to change my choices? You can! Year 12 Enrolment and Admin Day – Wednesday 31 August 2016 All students are expected to attend to sign up for class lists. This is also an opportunity to discuss choices with Subject Leaders. There is very limited flexibility to change subjects once students have started and only if agreed by the Director of Learning.

12. Admission A minimum of 5 A*-C grades at GCSE including English Language and Mathematics. All subjects have their own specific entry requirements, which are detailed in the subject leaflets (copies on the website).

13. 13 We offer approximately 60-80 places to students who are not from The Charter School. You need to submit your GCSE results by 2pm on 25 August and attend the Enrolment Day on the 31 August to put your name on the class lists. Admission

14. Offer Most students will study 4 subjects – this is outlined in the prospectus. All students have been invited to discuss subject choices in Spring term to offer IAG. Some students will meet the Director of Learning or Year Leader on Enrolment Day to agree their subject choices. We want to give IAG to guide subject choices and ensure success.

15. Reporting Systems All absences or appointments must be reported to the Sixth Form Administrator at sixthform@charter.southwark.sch.uk by parents.sixthform@charter.southwark.sch.uk Daily Attendance Texts – if a student misses any lessons or tutor period without reporting the absence. Module report – Target grades, current grades and EIL. The Stage System – is a system designed to support students who need to improve. This information is communicated to parents.

16. Basic rules School starts at 8.30 every day – parents will be contacted if you are late to school. Students will be put in tutor groups. Students must be properly equipped. Dress code is smart casual; it must be appropriate. Latecomers will NOT be admitted to lessons Use Study Periods wisely You cannot enter the Sixth Form without your ID card and visitors/friends are not permitted on the school site without authorisation from a staff member.

Y12 students say… “I seriously underestimated the work.” “I had to limit my social life.” “I wish I’d worked harder from the start.” “My free periods weren’t free!” “I reinvented myself as a learner.” “Because I chose the right subjects it was much easier to study.” “I know which uni course I want to do now.”

18. What else happens in Y12? Mentors (about 60 students are getting this now) Destinations planning your life ahead! The Charter Career Award (Employability, CV writing, financial awareness, presentation and interview skills) (we have set up >100 work experiences this year) Community Action (also helps students with their Uni applications and CVs) External partners (PwC, King’s College Hospital, IPC, King & Wood Mallesons, National Theatre, orchestras and art galleries)

19. What should you do now? Talk to your child about the subjects they want to take – how does this impact on future career/university choices? Students must attend the IAG meeting to indicate that they are still wishing to take up a place at TCS Sixth Form.
