2. S Macbeth was a dependable nobleman until he starts to change in Act I. L Macbeth confessed to himself, “I am Thane of Cawdor. If good, why do I yield to that suggestion whose horrid image doth unfix my hair and make my seated heart knock at my ribs, against the use of nature? Present fears are less than horrible imaginings,” in Act 1 Scene 2. A This meaning that since he has received a taste of what could be he wants more and will go through all ends to get what he wants even though he knows it’s unethical. M I have seen this same behavior in young children. They take what they want because it will benefit them and don’t really consider consequences which always leads them to trouble. Macbeth is heading down a dangerous path. He will begin to lose himself.

3. S In the beginning of Act 1 Macbeth is well loved by all, however those actions that people adored start to change. L Macbeth plans to do something most horrible. He plans on killing King Duncan. “If it were done when ‘tis done, then ‘twere well it were done quickly. If the assassination could trammel up the consequence, and catch with his surcease success; that but this blow might be-all and the end-all here, we’d jump the life to come.” A This quote from Act 1 Scene 7 shows that he plans to kill the king with swift motion because he wants everything the king has and will put his life in danger for it. M This actually reminds me of the time my cousin wanted to own something so bad that she did a deed that wasn’t so good, putting her relationship with her father in trouble just to own such an item.

4. S At the end of Act 1 Macbeth has begun to change. L Macbeth begins to change in Act 1 Scene 4 when he finds out that Malcolm is prince and even says to himself, “That is a step on which I must fall down or o’erleap.” A In stating this Macbeth is thinking to himself he will either have to kill the prince or except it and back down. M I’ve seen a similar scenario to this before in a war movie where one soldier wanted to have control over his squad so he murdered the squad leader.
