Ref. Risks OMPSR029, OMPSR043; MDRs C032823, C032824, C032825; Waivers 21164-W-28, 29, 39 Likelihood 2 – Unlikely Impact 4 – Degraded System Performance Affects image noise and CCD temperature control. Impact quantified. Background The Nadir Profiler and the Nadir Total Column spectrometers are non-compliant with performance requirements in levels in specific frequencies in the 10 to 350 MHz range (RS103). The Nadir Profiler is non-compliant with performance requirements at the specified limit levels. The Nadir Total Column sensor meets all performance requirements (CS114). Mitigation Waivers 21164-W-28, 29, 39 are approved. Options exists for NP ozone retrieval: 1) Develop an algorithmic approach to correct for the incorrect dark current by reading the dark current from an unlit portion of the focal plane for each image on the NP. 2) Eliminate the 252 nm channel from data processing of the NP since it is redundant with the 273.61 nm channel. Ref. Risk OMPSR014, OMPR046; Waiver 21164-W-33 Likelihood 5 – Near certainty during South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) transits only (~9% of imaging) Impact 2 – Low impact during SAA transits Background An analysis of the effects of radiation events on CCDs and their impact to ozone retrieval performance indicates degraded performance while transiting the. Mitigation Waiver approved for Nadir Profiler secondary ozone products; Total Column performance impacts accommodated in OMPS error budgets. Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite H - 10 Export Control Notice - Export or re-export of information contained herein may be subject to restrictions and requirements of U.S. export laws and regulations and may require advance authorization from the U.S. government. 6 November 2008 Residual Risk # 8: Weak Bit in Hitachi EEPROMs in Single Board Computer Risk Statement All four SBC EEPROMs might have read errors that exceed the EDAC ability to correct Likelihood 1 – Remote Impact 5 – Mission Objectives at Risk The MEB will be unable to boot. Background Each GD SBC has two redundant EEPROMs. NASA issued a GIDEP alert on these components due to the potential of weak stored bits. BATC developed the capability of refreshing the EEPROMs on-orbit. Mitigation Analysis shows likelihood to be highly unlikely. Additional vendor testing was put in place for this specific Lot Date Code. EEPROM refresh capability on-orbit is implemented and FQT’d Accept this risk. Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite H - 11 Export Control Notice - Export or re-export of information contained herein may be subject to restrictions and requirements of U.S. export laws and regulations and may require advance authorization from the U.S. government. 6 November 2008 Residual Risk # 22: MGSE Design Safety Factors Risk Statement MGSE could fail, resulting in damage to the OMPS hardware and/or personnel Ref. Waiver 21164-W-19 Likelihood 1 – Remote Impact 5– High due to resulting damage to hardware or injury to personnel if the MGSE were to fail Background MGSE was not analyzed for a 5x safety factor on ultimate and a 3x safety factor on yield. If the existing MGSE is re- analyzed, some non-lifting components do not have positive margins with a 5x safety factor on ultimate and a 3x safety factor on yield. Mitigation The probability of GSE failing is very low since GSE was proof-load tested to 2x the working load. Lifting & handling fixtures were subsequently analyzed and passed the 5x safety factor with positive margin; RFS was from the original waiver and should be lowered. Accept this risk.
