3 Let’s Practice! O Create Cornell Notes for the following topic… The Beatles The Beatles were one of the world’s most influential rock bands. They formed in 1960 in Liverpool, England. They first came to the U.S in 1963 and made their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. This was the start of “Beatlemania”. The group consisted of four members. John Lennon provided the vocals and played the guitar. Paul McCartney also sang and played the bass. George Harrison played the guitar. Ringo Starr was the drummer.

12 Exposition The start of the story O Establishes setting and characters

13 Rising Action Series of events that leads to the climax. Develops characters and conflicts Creates interest Builds suspense

14 Turning Point O The moment of highest intensity! O The outcome of the conflict is made clear. O Outcome/solution to conflict

15 Falling Action O Any action that follows the climax. O Usually very quick and makes up a small part of the story. O Leads to the ending

30 First Person POV “I heard a noise from outside. As I got up and walked boldly towards the entrance to the room, I knew that there may be someone lurking around the corner. I kept my composure and continued forward, knowing that I may soon have to take down an intruder.”

31 Third Person Limited “John heard a noise from outside. He wasn’t sure what it was, so he slowly walked towards the door. He was visibly shaking, and he knew that he could be attacked at any minute. With sweat dripping from his brow, he slowly peaked around the corner.”

32 Third Person Omniscient “John heard a loud noise outside. He wasn’t sure what it was, so he walked slowly towards the door. Little did he know that his anxiety was unnecessary. At the same time, around the corner sat Snuggles, his cat, who had just knocked a plate from the kitchen sink. With sweat dripping from John’s brow, he slowly peaked around the corner.”

33 Symbol Remember “Remembering all the Boys”?? A symbol is something that represents a feeling or idea.

34 Flashback A scene that interrupts the current action in order to give background information

35 Suspense Feeling of anxiety in a story

36 Hyperbole Exaggeration for effect

37 Irony O Contrast between what was said/expected and what actually happened or what was actually meant.

38 Satire O Mocks individuals or society O Kardashians Kardashians O Hashtag Hashtag
