Develop technical skills as they apply to playing the guitar. Learn & apply correct terminology regarding the guitar. Read & interpret traditional music notation, chord symbols, and tablature. Open and expand your musical horizons Enjoy the process of music making with your peers – and have FUN while doing it!

Be prepared every day to play at the best of your ability. Be engaged and ready to make music. Treat yourself and each other with respect. Listen to all instructions - but don’t be afraid to ask questions if you don’t understand!

PENCIL 3-Ring Binder. Dedicate it ENTIRELY to this class. (1/2”, 1” is fine) GUITAR…

This will be a mixture of large group instruction, one-on-one work, and individual practice. Combination of written & playing assignments will be used to help you progress through the curriculum

We have a set here for everyone to be able to use. There are enough for everyone to use one here at school. They unfortunately are NOT able to go home with you. YOU and two other people are responsible for the well-being of these instruments during class.

LET ME KNOW ASAP if… ◦ Something is broken/cracked ◦ Something is missing ◦ The guitar is missing! IF YOU BREAK A STRING….and you will. ◦ YOU are responsible for replacing it. Not the person after you. Instrument Care Agreement

This is a performance based class, and you are an active part of that! 50% - Summative Exams. This will include your daily class progress and short playing quizzes each quarter. 30% - Formative Exams. These will be longer playing tests and any performances that are scheduled. 20% - Homework.

The only way to get better at your instrument is to PRACTICE – there is no shortcut. In order to play guitar correctly, you are going to need to build up muscles in your hands and CALLUSES on your fingers. Therefore, it is strongly encouraged that you obtain a guitar for your own personal use at home. If you are looking at getting one, let’s talk about your options.

The class itself is not entirely made of beginners. We will start out with the basics for everyone so that we can all speak the same language. After that, there are plenty of options for those of you that have some experience – including helping everyone else out!
