Golfing Terms – on course: Tee block – the area where you will start any golf hole from. Work out which coloured tee block you are supposed to hit from and place your ball in between them but behind the markers. Fairway – this is short mowed grass area between the tee block and the putting green’s. Putting Green – this is the area at the end of a golf hole with the very short grass and where the hole is. Bunker – is a Golf course hazard that is a hole or depression in the ground filled with sand.

Golfing Terms – scoring: Par – the number of shots that is recommended to take to complete a hole (or 18 holes). Birdie – a score of one shot under the par for the hole. Bogey – a score of one shot over the par for the hole, then Double Bogey for two shots over the par and so on. Eagle – a score of two shots under the par for the hole

Golfing Terms – Other: Gimme – a term for a putt that is close enough to the hole that it will certainly be made. The other player says “it’s a gimme” and the player doesn't have to putt it. Ringer – the score applied to a hole which the golfer has not completed for whatever reason. Haggle – this is a non-official match, in an agreed format played between members of a four. A small wager often accompanies a “haggle”. Honour – the privilege of hitting the first tee shot on the next hole because you scored the best on the previous hole. Fore – the term used to warn other golfers that your ball might be going to land near them – this is a safety call.

Golfing Terms – Gear: Driver – the driver is designed to hit the ball the farthest. It is the club with the largest club head, the longest shaft and the least amount of loft (except the putter) and is generally used off the tee on the tee block. Woods – have large rounder heads and are used to hit the ball longer distances. Irons – these are the clubs numbered from 3 to 9, with 3 having the least loft and the ball will go further to the 9 with the most loft and least distance. Wedges – these are the clubs with letters on them (S – sand, P – pitching). These have the most loft and the ball will go the least distance. Putter – this is the club used on the greens to roll the ball along the surface of the green and into the hole. Trundler – this is the term for the trolley (with wheels) that you put your golf clubs (golf bag) on to transport them around the course.

Lesson #1: Part One – What all the golf Clubs do: Part Two – Putting: #1Set up: How do we stand when we Putt? Firstly hands on knees, bring hands together, then point fingers towards toes, then pull arms up to tummy. #2 Grip: Left hand below the right hand, thumbs on top of the grip with both hands pulled together. A putting stroke is designed to roll the ball along the ground. #3Distance Control: The putting stroke works like a pendulum to try and get the same distance back from the ball as you get once you hit the ball. Part Three – Chipping: #1Set up: Same posture as full swing, width of stance – feet one club head apart, Weight 75% on the left leg (right hand golfer). #2Grip: Same as the full swing. #3Swing: Just like an underarm throw. Always swing slightly downwards to lift the ball up into the air. Part Four – Full Swing: #1Simple set up: tilt, tuck, pop and drop set up. #2Grip: using the reminder grips to demonstrate the correct grip. #3Baseball swing and Tip drill: this is a great drill to help you turn correctly and to understand how your hands and arms work in the swing as well as to feel the balance required at the finish of the swing

Use golf balls with lines on them to work on getting the ball rolling true.
