Definition of waste waste that has the potential, even in low concentrations, to have a significant adverse effect on public health and the environment because of its essential toxicological, chemical and physical characteristics, All waste can be Hazardous .

Handling waste in the State of Kuwait
How we are handling our waste in the State of Kuwait? All domestic waste goes to Landfill (Dumping Areas). The Municipality is responsible of all domestic waste. They have more than 15 dumping areas and some are closed. The Waste Management Area In Kuwait, (NCC) belong to the Public Authority of Industries What is the definition of Disposal : “any operation which may lead to Recovery, Recycling, Reclamation &Reuse, direct re-use or alternative uses (Basel convention)”

Waste Problem in Kuwait
Kuwait volume of garbage has increased more than 50% Countries with higher standard of living produce more waste. Traditional Methods (dumping and burning) are no longer accepted.

Waste Management In Kuwait
Current Situation in the State of Kuwait Statistics According to the Kuwait Central Statistical Bureau ,quantities of waste are INCREASING ANNUALY. The percentages of different types of waste in the MSW stream in Kuwait are represented in Fig. 1, based on data from the Industrial Bank of Kuwait. Organic waste constitutes the largest proportion of waste, making up 50%, whereas paper come in second with 21% and third positions plastic 13%.

Basel Convention Kuwait Singed the Basel Convention on the 22nd March 1989. Ratified the Convention on 11th October 1993. Kuwait Public Authority of Environment (KEPA). Responsibility for the implementation of BC.

Case Studies from Kuwait
Removing PCBs from Kuwait using Kuwait Right according to Basel Convention. Helping the USA armies in Kuwait to follow Basel Convention in handling their Hazardous Waste. Recycling USA armies in Kuwait by making use of it.

WHAT SHOULD BE DONE Awareness: Through campaign on waste management that includes media (Radio, TV, News paper), Going to schools, and involve them in the awareness programs.

Recommendation: Kuwait needs to have : Waste Management Center
Involve the Private sectors (Industrial Bank, World Bank) & Others Reclamation for the 15 landfills,
