3 Significance  Future immigrants were to be welcome because of skills/professions, not from their countries of origin.  To withdrawal national-origins quotas (1920s)

4 Four Main Points  Social and family reunification  Economic- fulfilling labor shortages  Political- refuge from prosecution  Cultural- increased diversities within the states

5 Unintended Consequences  "The bill that we sign today is not a revolutionary bill," President Johnson said during the signing ceremony. “It does not affect the lives of millions. It will not reshape the structure of our daily lives, or really add importantly to either our wealth or our power.” Senator Ted Kennedy the bill’s floor manager, stated: "It will not upset the ethnic mix of our society.”

9 Failure or Success?  Everyone had their own opinion about if it harmed or helped the country.  Invested in diversity and talent, and brought about benefits and economic growth.  Currently, unresolved conversation about the nation’s identity.  Until further considerable changes to the immigration system, the 1965 Act will continue to shape the changing face of America.
