2 December 25 th is Christmas. It is the day when Jesus Christ was born and it has been celebrated since ancient times. Christmas The word Christmas came from the word Christ(Jesus) and the word Mas(mass). The X in the word X-Mas stands for Christ in ancient Greek.

3 England Germany Mince Pie Mince Pie It’s a pie filled with minced meat, fruits, and spices. It has been enjoyed as a traditional British Christmas treat since the Middle Ages. The USA It’s a turkey filled with bread, vegetables, and herbs and then roasted in the oven. It’s big enough so the whole family can shared it. Roasted Turkey Roasted Turkey Stollen It’s a traditional German cake baked with plenty of butter, raisins, dried fruits and peels of sour fruits. 4 Buche de Noel It’s a cake shaped like a log that is used to light a fire on Christmas Eve. It’s usually enjoyed as dessert after dinner. France Russia Australia Pavlova It’s a popular Australian dessert made of meringue(cookie baked with beaten egg whites and sugar), cream, and fruit. Borsch It’s a soup made with potatoes, carrots, onions, and cabbage and served with sour cream. It’s red color is from beetroots and tomato sauce. In France, people keep the fireplace on from Christmas to New Year’s Day. 14 1. Boil some water and pour it into the cup noodles. 2. Cut the morning rolls in halves. 3. Squeeze the tofu to get rid of excess water. 4. Mince the leeks and carrot. 5. Drain the noodles and cool them down with cold water. Drain them again and chop them 3cm long. ■ How to Cook

15 6. Mix the chopped noodles, squeezed tofu, minced leeks and carrot, shrimp, an egg, stock powder and flour in a bowl. Knead it and make it into five balls. 7. Cover the noodle balls with flour. Dip them in a beaten egg and pan-fry them. 8. While you pan-fry the noodles balls, tear off the lettuce into the size of morning rolls. Slice the onion into 0.3cm thin rings and the tomato into 0.5cm thin pieces. 9. When the noodle balls are done, spread some mustard on the morning rolls. Place the lettuce, cheese, onion, tomato, and noodle ball on one half morning roll. Spread some ketchup on top and place the other half morning roll. ■ How to Cook

16 ① Get the ingredients ready. ② Chop the ingredients. ④ Pour the hot water. ⑤ Knead it. ⑥ Make five balls. ⑧ Dip in a beaten egg. ⑦ Cover with flour. ⑨ Pan-fry the balls. ⑩ Cut the morning rolls and spread mustard. ⑪ Make burgers. Enjoy! ③ Squeeze the tofu.
