2. WHERE I AM NOW As of August 2014….. I am a sophomore at BHS I wish to pursue a doctorate degree in primary care (Pediatrician) My current gpa is a 4.0 I will graduate in May of 2017, hopefully in the top twenty of my class

AFTER GRADUATING HS I WILL ATTEND…… I wish to attend Vanderbilt University - application -high school transcriptions -counselor letter of recommendation -two academic letters of recommendation -SAT or ACT scores I will pursue a major in psychology with a minor in child studies It will take me four years with required math, science and premed classes to graduate with a B.S

4. AFTER RECEIVING A B.S. IN PSYCHOLOGY WITH A MINOR IN CHILD STUDIES I will apply to the Vanderbilt School of Medicine -two stages of admission: an evaluation of your application and then a secondary stage interview -Approximately one third of the first stage applicants get an interview. Then, around 450 students will be interviewed and approximately 200 will be offered admission for 88 positions I will receive a doctorate in “primary care” that will take me four years to complete

REQUIREMENTS FOR A PEDIATRICIAN A state license is needed to practice -graduate from medical school -complete a time of residency -take the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam Residency -takes 3 years -combination of classroom and practical experience Board Certification -provides certification in a specific area (pediatrics) Need to be personable, polite, patient, determined

BASIC JOB INFORMATION A pediatrician is a physician that works with the care of patients from infancy to young adulthood  Employment of pediatricians is expected to increase 18% in the next 8 years  Better job opportunities in rural areas  Work in private practices, clinic, general and specialty hospitals  Average salary is around $173,000

7. SUPPORTING CREDENTIALS? Specializations within the Pediatric field make you more desirable Ex: -Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine -Pediatric Transplant Hepatology -Pediatric Endocrinology -Pediatric Hematology-Oncology -Sleep medicine

8. WHERE WILL I WORK? Pediatricians can work in hospitals, private practices, clinics, schools, etc. I plan to work in a children's hospital at first, then open my own practice with another fellow pediatrician
