5. 5 WATER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT Legislative Mandate NATIONAL WATER ACT (No. 36 of 1998) DWAF must ensure that S. A.’s water resources are protected, used, developed, conserved, managed and controlled in a sustainable and equitable manner, for the benefit of all persons DWAF must ensure that S. Through the development of new infrastructure and improved management of water resources we are continuing to make a meaningful difference to the livelihood and quality of life to those people. A supply of secure and safe potable water can help fight off disease, bring basic dignity to people and contribute to eradicating some of the hardships of poverty.In terms of Water Services, there are millions of people who do not have access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation. Through the development of new infrastructure and improved management of water resources we are continuing to make a meaningful difference to the livelihood and quality of life to those people. A supply of secure and safe potable water can help fight off disease, bring basic dignity to people and contribute to eradicating some of the hardships of poverty.
