Intro When you take that AP test, don’t trip, don’t stress ‘Cause I got ill-est skills to help you pass the test. I got these silly rhymes; I got these studying tips Sit up straight and straight up listen now; just read my lips.
11
ASSONANCE First up is ASSONANCE: What’s that “ass” word all about? It’s all about the sound of vowels that plow out of your mouth: Like bitch please, you ain’t got steez You got pants around your knees Just like Hamlet on his planet of antic plans and frantic pleas.
12
APOSTROPHE Then there’s APOSTROPHE: Oh no, you didn’t! OH SNAP! Addressin’abstract concepts, absent people Like an old demented bat. Like “O Brother Where Art Thou?” or even “OMG”! They punctuate the drama like— “O God, you forsake me!”
13
ANAPEST After apostrophe, then there’s ANAPEST: It’s not the coolest meter you will see up on the test Two unstressed/one stressed will leave you distressed And if you listen long enough, it causes cardiac arrest.
14
ANTHROPOMORPHISM Now that brings us to ANTHROPOMORPHISM: Biggest word you ever heard to show the tiny schism ‘tween the non-human thing and its human composition. It’s just personification; who the heck are they kiddin?!?
15
ANACHRONISM ANACHRONISM’S next; misplaced time is the best. I play croquet with Monet; 2 Chains and Genghis Khan play chess. Then I check my swatch watch to see if it’s time For an ‘80s rap battle with Grendel, Anglo-Saxon style.
16
Antimetabole The next term that we have is ANTIMETABOLE: Who thought up this term? This concept is worse than Glee! Just transpose your words, and the words they will transpose. If he knows he’s got a hit, then he’s hit it on the nose.
17
alliteration Last one; almost done—ALLITERATION is such fun: A celebration‘cross the nation Of the potency of puns. Who wouldn’t want words to have the same start? Let’s synchronize our syntax and alliterate our art.
18
conclusion Now you know the terms; now you got this in the bag. Strut your stuff on the test; show off your poem swag.
