What is the Boxer Rebellion? A series of Chinese rebellions against missionaries and foreign forces China had been forced to sign “Unequal Treaties” to foreign powers Lasted from 1899-1901 Concentrated in northern China where European powers demanded land, rail and mining rights

How Did the Boxer Rebellion Begin? Resentment increased after China lost a war to Japan (1894-1895) It began as the “Boxers” started attacking foreign compounds in modern-day Beijing A top-ranking German diplomat was killed A multinational force of 54,000 troops is sent to China Includes troops from: Japan, Russia, United Kingdom, France, U.S., Germany, Italy and Austria
