Background Born: April 3 rd 1934 in London, England Still alive today at age 81 She received an education at Cambridge University 8 th person to receive PhD from Cambridge without a baccalaureate (in Ethology 1965) Worked as Secretary, starting at Oxford, in order to pay for a trip to Africa Became TV sensation with Miss Goodall and the Wild Chimpanzees

Contributions Goodall coined a phrase “the banana club” which was a systematic feeding method she used to gain the trust of the chimpanzees Goodall was key in understanding the complex social systems and intelligence of these primates (ie: tools, comforting, and language) She wrote books (Through the Window), spoke at seminars & meetings, and actively advocates for ecologically responsible action and humane treatment of chimpanzees.

Back to APES Jane Goodall relates to our class in her belief that human actions are all part of the interconnected system. Our impact on the world through pollution and habitat destruction can harm the important and amazing socially structure of chimpanzees.
