Platforms: What are we talking about? Most value on the internet is created by multisided platforms: They create value by enabling interactions between two or more customer groups. Apple/Android: People who buy a phone - developers of apps Amazon Marketplace: People who search a product-companies selling products AirBnB: People searching a place to stay - people who offer a place to stay
5
Example: Apple App Store Observations: Developers complement the functionality of the platform It is relatively easy to participate to the ecosystem, platform is open through some of the API's and the software development kit, Governance for quality control Clear revenue model for Apple and Complementors
6
AUTOSAR: Example in automotive 6 Standardized architecture for automotive software Software developers can complement the functionality of a car Standards based Car manufacturers Software developers

FoF-11-2016: Digital automation 1. Collaborative manufacturing and logistics 2.Novel architectures for factory automation based on CPS and IoT Budget 51 M€ RIAs shall develop reference implementations of platforms in a multi-sided market ecosystem User-driven proof-of-concept demonstrations and validation in several different scenarios: e.g. through testbeds Proposals should contain an outline business case and industrial exploitation strategy RIA 100%
9
RIA 100% Target is to develop the "operating system" of the connected factory of the future. real-time architectures for interoperability; management of the data deluge ICT security, knowledge protection, and trust in collaborative infrastructures. FoF11 Collaborative manufacturing and logistics (1) Large projects: 5-8 M € Operating system of the factory Supply networks Machine producers Enterprises Software developers NB: Reference implementation AND ecosystem required!
10
RIA 100% FoF11 - Novel architectures for factory automation based on CPS and IoT (2) Small projects (2-4 M€) Automation architectures that support new trends in manufacturing like re-shoring and mass-customisation. Virtualisation of the traditional automation pyramid from sensor- control to enterprise-level and/or methods and models for the synchronization of the digital and real world, as well as integration into existing production systems. Shared situational awareness; self-adjustment of digital models triggered by smart objects, on real-time co-simulation methods; and on handling of large amounts of sensor and process data. NB: Reference implementation AND ecosystem required!
11
Coordination and Support Action (CSA) support industrial consensus building both with suppliers and users across Europe, addressing future factory automation systems built on CPS and the IoT; pan-European platform building, and collaboration on manufacturing issues across all relevant PPPs. FOF 11 - Digital Automation Budget 2 M€
12
FOF 11 - Digital Automation Expected impact: Innovative services, models and practices optimising manufacturing and logistics processes; Quantified drastic reductions in the effort for integration or reconfiguration of today's hierarchical automation systems through advanced de-centralised or hybrid architectures; Better and faster reaction to market changes by being able to use holistic global and local optimization algorithms in a collaborative sustainable value chain. An outline of exploitation plan and Business Scenario TRL 3-5
