ENGLISH COURSES ENGLISH 9: PREREQUISITES: NONE. PRIMARY TEXT: FORMS OF LITERATURE (SCOTT, FORESMAN & CO.). THIS FULL YEAR COURSE BRINGS THE STUDENT INTO CONTACT WITH THE BASIC LITERARY GENRES; SHORT STORIES,DRAMA, POETRY AND BIOGRAPHY. THIS COURSE WILL HELP THE STUDENT TOWARD OBTAINING A BETTER COMMAAND OF ENGLISH GRAMMER, VOCCABULARY AND SPELLING, AS WELL AS DEVELOPING BASIC COMPOSITION SKILLS. STUDENTS RECEIVE IN DEPTH INSTRUCTION TO ADVANCE ANALYTICAL AND INFERENTIAL COGNITIVE ABILITY. HONORS ENGLISH 9: PREREQUSITES; HSPT EXAM, APPROVED ESSAY. PRIMARY TEXT: INSTRUCTOR DESCISION. THIS FULL YEAR COURSE IS AN ADVANCED LEVEL INTRODUCTION TO BASIC LITERARY GENRES AND AN EXPLORATION AND EVALUATION OF SPECIFIC AUTHORS. STUDENTS DEVELOP EXPANDED VOCABLARY AND WRITING SKILLS. ENGLISH 10: PREREQUSITES; SATISFACTORY COMPLETION OF AN ENGLISH 9 COURSE. PRIMARY TEXT: TRADITIONS IN LITERATURE (SCOTT, FORESMAN & CO.). A FULL YEAR COURSE FURTHER DEVELOPS THE STUDENT’S UBDERSTANDING OF THE BASIC LITERATURE GENRES OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE. STUDENTS CONTINUE TO DEVELOP SPEAKING AND WRITING SKILLS, IN PARTICULAR EXPOSITORY AND CREATIVE WRITING. DEVELOPMENT CONTINUES IN VOCABLARY, SPELLING AND GRAMMER. DURING THE SECOND SEMESTER SHAKESPEARE IS FOCUED ON, CULMINATING WITH PARTICIPATION IN THE SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL. HONORS ENGLISH 10: PREREQUISITES; SATISFACTORY COMPLETION OF AN ENGLISH 9 COURSE, RECOMMENDATION OF THE TEACHER. PRIMARY TEXT; INSTRUCTOR DECISION. THIS IS A COMPREHENSIVE, COLLEGE PREPARATORY READING AND WRITING COURSE. THIS COURSE FOCUSES ON THE INTRINSIC ROLE OF ALL LITERARY ART FORMS IN OUR SOCIETY, THE SHORT STORY, THE ESSAY, POETRY, FILM AND THEATER. STUDENTS DEVELOP PROFICENCY IN WRITING AND CREATIVE EXPRESSION.

ENGLISH COURSES ENGLISH 11(AMERICAN LITERATURE): PREREQUISITES; ENGLISH 9 AND 10. PRIMARY TEXT;UNITED SHTATES LITERATURE (SCOTT, FORESMAN & CO.) THIS COURSE FOCUSES ON THE CRONOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT OF AMERICAN LITERATURE FROM ITS BIRTH TO THE PRESENT DAY. EMPHASIS IS FOCUSED ON THE WRITING OF A RESEARCH PAPER, THE COMPILATION OF AN AMERICAN POETRY BOOKLET, AND THE DELIVERY OF ORGANIZED SPEECH. HONORS ENGLISH 11 (AMERICAN LITERATURE): PREREQUSITES; ENGLISH 9 AND 10, RECOMMENDATION OF THE TEACHER. PRIMARY TEXT; TEACHER DECISION. THIS INTENSIVE COLLEGE PREPARATORY COURSE PROVIDES STUDENNTS WITH AN IN DEPTH REVIEW OF AMERICAN LITERATURE- ITS FORMS, TRENDS AND EVOLUTION, WHILE STRESSING THE IMPORTANCE OF CRITICAL ANALYSIS AND SUPERIOR WRITING SKILLS. STUDENTS ARE CHALLENGED TO WRITE DAILY IN A VARIETY OF MODES, INCLUDING PROSE FICTION, POETRY, THESIS/RESEARCH, AND EXPOSITION. CONFIDENT EXPRESSION OF INDIVIDUAL VIEWS AND PERCEPTION IS ENCOURAGED. ENGLISH 12 (BRITISH LITERATURE): PREREQUSITES; ENGLISH 9,10,11. PRIMARY TEXT; TEACHER DESCISION. THIS COLLEGE PREPARARTORY, SEMESTER COURSE IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE GRADUATING SENIORS AN APPRECIATION AND CRITICAL UNDERSTANDING OF BRITISH LITERARY FORMS FROM THE DAWN OF THE ANGLO SAXON CONQUEST TO THE END OF THE VICTORIAN ERA. EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON CRITICAL ANALYSIS, EXPOSITION AND CREATIVE WRITING. 1 SEMESTER COURSE. ENGLISH 12 (CREATIVE WRITING): PREREQUSITES; ENGLISH 9,10,11. PRIMARY TEXT: TEACHER DECISION. THIS COLLEGE PREPARATORT COURSE IS DESIGNED FOR STUDENTS TO WORK EXTENSIVELY IN THE WRITING PROCESS TO CREATE ORIGINAL PROSE, POETRY AND SCRIPTS. ANALYSIS OF INTERNATIONAL LITERATURE AND RELATED MEDIUMS IS INCORPORATED. ADVANCED PLACEMENT ENGLISH 12: PREREQUSITES; ENGLISH 9,10,11 AND TEACHER RECOMMENDATION. PRIMARY TEXT;TEACHER DECISION. THIS IS AN INTENSIVE LITERATURE AND WRITING FULL YEAR COURSE THAT IS DESIGNED TO THOROUGHLY PREPARE GRADUATING SENIORS FOR COLLEGE ENGLISH AND THE ADVANCED PLACEMENT EXAMINATION. FREQUENT ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF LITERARY LANGUAGE, STYLE AND THEMES-AS WELL AS IDENTIFICATION OF IMAGERY,SYMBOLISM AND TONE IN LIGHT OF SOCIAL AND HISTORICAL VALUES. MYTHS AND DRAMA FROM THE ANCIENT GREEKS TO MODERN NOVELS AND PROSE POETRY OF AMERICAN AND BRITISH WRITERS IS EVALUATED AND REVIEWED IN STUDENT WRITING. EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF INTELLIGENT INDIVIDUAL EXPRESSION THROUGH CRITICAL ANALYSIS, EXPOSITION AND CREATIVE WRITING.

SOCIAL STUDIES COURSES WORLD HISTORY PREREQUSITES: NONE. TEXT: WORLD HISTORY; THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE (GLENCOE). WORLD HISTORY IS A REQUIRED COURSE THAT EXAMINES AND ANALYSES THE POLITICAL AND CULTURAL DEVELOPMENTS OF HUMAN SOCIETIES AND INSTITUTTIONS FROM THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION TO THE PRESENT. STUDENTS READ, RESEARCH, UTILIZE A VARIETY OF TECHNOLOGYS INPROJECTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO TAKE THIS COURSE IN THE FRESHMAN YEAR, AND MUST COMPLETE THE COURSE BY THE SOPHOMORE YEAR.

SOCIAL STUDIES COURSES U.S. HISTORY PREREQUSITES; WORLD HISTORY, PRIMARY TEXT; AMERICAN ODESSY (GLENCOE). THIS FULL YEAR COURSE FOR JUNIORS IS AN OVERVIEW OF THE IMPORTANT EVENTS, IDEAS AND PEOPLE THAT SHAPED THE HISTORY AND EVOLUTION OF THE UNITED STATES FROM THE COLONIAL PERIOD TO THE PRESENT WITH AN EMPHASIS ON THE 20TH CENTURY. THIS IS A REQUIRED COURSE. U.S. HISTORY HONORS PREREQUSITES; WORLD HISTORY, 3.0 GPA OR CONSENT OF INSTRUCTOR.PRIMARY TEXT;AMERICAN ODESSY (GLENCO). THIS IS AN ADVANCED U.S. HISTORY COURSE THAT REVIEWS IN DEPTH THE SIGNIFICANT EVENTS AND PEOPLE IN U.S. HISTORY. IT INCLUDES SPECIFIC RESEARCH STUDIES, PROJECTS AND SUPPLEMENTARY READINGS. PRIMARY TEXT: MAGRUDERS AMERICAN GOVERNMENT(PRENTICE HALL).THIS SENIOR COURSE IS AN EXAMINATION OF THE STRUCTURE, DYNAMICS, PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS OF AMERICAN POLITICS AT THE STATE, LOCAL AND FEDERAL LEVELS. HONORS U.S. GOVERNMENT, FIRST SEMESTER. PREREQUISITES: 3.0 GPA IN SUBJECT AREA OR CONSENT OF THE INSTRUCTOR. PRIMARY TEXT: MAGRUDERS AMERICAN GOVERNMENT (PRENTICE HALL). THIS IS AN ENRICHED AND CHALLENGING VERSION OF THE REGULAR US GOVERNMENT COURSE. THIS COURSE IS A STUDY OF THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF ECONOMICS WITH AN EMPHASIS ON THE U.S. ECONOMY, ITS STRUCTURE AND CHARACTER. THE COURSE ALSO INCLUDES A UNIT ON INCOME DISTRIBUTION, POVERTY AND URBAN PROBLEMS; ECONOMICS AND THE ENVIRONMENT, PERSONAL ECONOMICS; AND COMPARATIVE ECONOMICS SYSTEMS AND THE PROBLEMS OF THE DEVELOPING WORLD.
