What is a rap?

A rap is: a kind of popular music in which verses with words that rhyme are spoken and accompanied by a strong beat.

What else have we learned about in the past, either in this class or your past classes, that involve verses and words that rhyme?

A poem is: a piece of writing, often with words that rhyme and have a particular rhythm.

Rapping for Review! What are the 3 requirements for U.S. presidency, and the requirements we made up together for choosing the president of our class? LET’S PRACTICE:

To be President of Ms. G’s classroom… (To be president of the United States…) the student MUST be a student in Ms. G’s classroom. (the candidate MUST be a native born United States citizen [or abroad, only with parents born in the US].) the student MUST be at least 7 years old. (the candidate MUST be at least 35 years of age or older.) the student MUST be in Ms. G’s class from the very first day of class (or transferred into Ms. G’s class within the first week of school). (the candidate MUST have lived in the United States for at least 14 years.)

Another example (with sound): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITdakRPwI-U So you want to be president, is that true? Well here’s what you’ve got to do: You must be a student of Ms. G’s class, Just like the president must be a native born of the U.S. You have to be at least seven years old, For the president it’s thirty-five so I’m told. Been coming to Ms. G’s class since the first day, As long as he’s lived in the U.S. 14 years the president is on his way.

Vocabulary Election - the process of choosing a person for office by voting. Vote - a formal expression of a choice in an election or other group decision. General election – when voters in each state cast their vote for electors to represent their state in the Electoral College. Electoral College - a group of people chosen to officially elect the President and Vice President of the United States, based on the popular vote in each state. Candidate - a person who seeks to be elected or appointed to a certain position. Presidential candidate - a person who seeks to be elected or appointed to the position of president. Register - to sign up for something by having one's name put on an official list. Disqualify - to make not fit or qualified.
