International Atomic Energy Agency RCA Project on Strengthening Medical Physics through Education and Training (RCA) (RAS/6/038) National Project Coordinators Meeting Dhaka,, Bangladesh, 26-28 May 2008. Prinath Dias Senior Project Management Officer and RCA Focal Person

International Atomic Energy Agency Background Information Project originally approved for implementation in 2003 – 2004 Extended to 2005-2006 Scope significantly expanded to cover RO, DR and NM and extended to 2007-2012 Current budget - 1,339,300 $ Project Lead Country Coordinator – Dr. John Drew Trial Coordinator – Dr. Brian Thomas Technical Officer – Dr. Donald McLean Project Management Officer – Dr. Prinath Dias

International Atomic Energy Agency Project Objective To establish a medical physics clinical training programme in the Asia and Pacific region to prepare students for their professional career in clinical environments.

International Atomic Energy Agency Expected outcomes An international and national model for clinical training of medical physicists. Recognition of the program elements as essential components to becoming a qualified medical physicist Utilisation of elements of the developed program and materials as part of an academic program for medical physicists. Elements utilisable as a template against which to optimise an institute's performance in the medical physics area.

International Atomic Energy AgencyOutputs Implementation of the clinical training program for radiation oncology medical physicists. Documentation and implementation of the clinical training program for radiology medical physicists Documentation and implementation of the clinical training program for nuclear medicine medical physicists An implementable total clinical training program for all specialities. Senior medical physicists with an upgraded knowledge in current medical physics practices
