Welcome to Online Statistics! - Course Resources: - This course is located on Canvas and MyLab. - Canvas contains resources for study (see Modules), Assignments, Discussion functions, and our course Gradebook. - Mylab is located via the MyLab and Mastering tab within Canvas. Use this link initially to register. After registration you can continue to use the tab or access MyLab through: http://pearsonmylabandmastering.com/ http://pearsonmylabandmastering.com/ - You can find additional videos, online Homework, and the online textbook, in addition to pre-and post tests for every chapter and additional resources. - Let me know ASAP if you have having trouble accessing resources Slide 1- 2

Class format: - This course is not self-paced! All due dates are final. Please review the syllabus carefully including the tentative schedule of due dates as well as grading policies. - Exams will be given in the test center during the specified window of time. See the syllabus for details. - Your learning resources are located in Canvas under Modules. Assignments are linked through the Modules but can also be found on the Assignment tab. - Canvas assignments can be submitted by typing into the textbox or uploading a Word, pdf, or jpg file. Many students opt to hand write assignments and then scan them to a pdf. Smartphones can do this with an app called GeniusScan or you can use a scanner in the Duncan Hall or Library computer lab.

- Every week you should: Read announcements/messages/discussion postings (Canvas) Read the Chapter Lesson Materials (on Canvas) and complete the indicated learning activities including watching suggested videos, reading the textbook chapter and/or powerpoints, viewing the suggested handouts, and reading/watching any technology instructions. PRACTICE! Some Lesson materials will have exercises for you to try… try them! There are also practice problems found in textbook and on the MyLab website. Complete the online MyLab homework assignments. You get unlimited attempts and there is a great “help me solve this” feature, so everyone can get 100% on this! Submit the chapter assignment (on Canvas). These will be reviewed by your instructor and you will receive feedback as well as a solution key. *** note: all chapter assignments for each Unit must be submitted in order to unlock the next module. You will only receive credit for on-time assignments. If you are late, you will still need to submit the assignment in order to complete the unit (you just won’t receive credit for your work). Work on the capstone project (submitted in 3 parts) and study for exams

What if I don’t understand something??? MyLab has many resources such as “help me solve this” The Mathematics Center (HR230) in Hickory Ridge has stats help available – grab a copy of the schedule (available in HR230) and plan to drop in when a “STAT” person is available) Request a tutor through the Learning Assistance Center (request them early since there is often a wait) Post your Questions in the Unit 1/2/3 Q&A Discussion on Canvas to seek help from your instructor and peers Visit my Office hours (see syllabus) Send me a message through Canvas/email or call/text me during business hours.

Tips for success Do all assignments on time Get help early and often Use all your learning resources (videos, text, MyLab) Individual tutors can be requested from the Learning Center, MathLab is available for drop in help (see schedule for when a STAT tutor is available) Contact me Pay attention to the objectives (listed in each Chapter Lesson Materials page) – this is what you will be tested on. MyLab online homework will cover additional material, but your focus should be on the objectives. Slide 1- 6

Online courses require Computer Literacy Comfort with independent learning Significant time commitment If you are not spending a minimum of 10 hours a week on class material, you are not putting enough time into this course. 4+ hours for watching videos, reading powerpoints/textbook 2 hours for trying practice problems 1-2 hours for online homework (MyLab) 1-3 hours for hand-in homework and projects It is not too late to switch to a traditional or hybrid class if you do not know if you can make this commitment Slide 1- 7

How to reach me Use Canvas messaging or email. For statistical questions I’d prefer for you to post to the Q&A page for each Unit so that the whole class can benefit from the discussion. I will respond to emails every weekday around 11am-12pm but if something is urgent, it is better to reach me by phone/text. See syllabus for contact information (email/phone) and office hours
