Lasers The final project Lukáš Jörka 3.C
2
Introduction The aim of my final project: o Analyse lasers from different viewpoints o Create an overall view
3
Table of content What is a laser Principle of lasers Construction of lasers History of lasers Types of lasers Safety classes Effects of laser radiation Use of lasers Future of lasers
4
What is a laser LASER - L ight A mplification by S timulated E mission of R adiation Source of electromagnetic radiation (light) Specific characteristics of laser radiation o Monochromaticity o Coherence o Low divergence
5
Principle of lasers Formation of laser radiation o Spontaneous emission o Stimulated emission Spontaneous emission Stimulated emission
6
Construction of lasers Three basic parts: o A gain medium o A resonator o A source of energy Optional accessories
7
History of lasers 1917 - Albert Einstein described the principle of lasers (spontaneous and stimulated emission) 1953 - Charles Townes, James Gordon and Herbert Zeiger constructed a device called a maser 1960 - Theodore H. Maiman created the first laser (a gain medium - ruby crystal, only pulse mode)
8
Types of lasers According to a gain medium: o Solid-state lasers o Semiconductor lasers o Gas lasers o Liquid lasers o Plasma lasers o Free electron lasers According to other criteria: o Wavelength o Time mode
9
Use of lasers Medicine Industry Military Computer technology Astronomy Microelectrotechnics Ecology Daily life
10
Future of lasers Clean energy source Research of black holes Laser weapons Laser chips Data transfer by lasers
