Think about a special piece of Jewelry or item of clothes that you own 1.What is the item? 2.Why is it special to you 3.How do you feel when you wear it?

Sikhs waer 5 special items of clothes to show that they are Sikhs They all begin with K and are called the 5 K’s They are a very important part of being a Sikh Some are verydifferent to things we would wear some are very simualar

Sikh men Sikh men wear a Turban Sikh men can be easily identitfied Keeps their long hair in place.

Kesh - Long, uncut hair (and beard for men) – This symbolizes respect for God by not changing the way that he makes you Kacchera - Baggy shorts This symbolizes modesty and also a readiness to go into battle for their faith if necessary Kanga - Comb This reminds Sikhs to keep their lives in good order, as well as their Kesh neat and tidy Kara - A steel bracelet This symbolizes God has no beginning or end, and is a physical reminder of Him Kirpan - A small sword This reminds Sikhs to fight against evil, both physical and spiritual, in their everyday lives

Your task Fold your paper into six squares In the first box draw the Kandha In the next boxes draw a little picture of the 5 K’s and briefly explain what it is You have been asked by the Liverpool Sikh community to create a little handout for non- sikhs to learn more about the 5 K’s
