ESDS Seminar Apr 2009The EU Labour Force Survey 16 Part III: User requests

ESDS Seminar Apr 2009The EU Labour Force Survey 17 Eurostat receives LFS microdata –We can combine variables at wish –We can produce different indicators than in New Cronos –Huge flexibility to exploit information How much detail we can offer? –Reliability limits –Confidentiality rules (NEW) LFS microdata

ESDS Seminar Apr 2009The EU Labour Force Survey 18 Reliability limits –Data below certain thresholds are unreliable –We can deliver data to users but they can not publish It is OK if they aggregate the data before publication –Reliabiliy thresholds depend on country and year Between 500 persons (CY) and 10.000 persons (UK) –Data flagged ‘a’ or ‘b’. Data ‘a’ not to be published Data ‘b’ published in a special way Publication guidelines: reliability

ESDS Seminar Apr 2009The EU Labour Force Survey 19 Confidentiality limits (NEW): Data based on 3 or less sample units risk to unveil privacy of people –Corresponds approx to 200-400 estimated persons Data flagged ‘c’. Data not to be distributed to users –Data deleted from files (exceptions: DGs or Agencies) Observations: –Not possible to know beforehand if an extraction will have data deleted Several iterations may be needed. More work. –Users could get different totals than in New Cronos Publication guidelines: confidentiality

ESDS Seminar Apr 2009The EU Labour Force Survey 20 Please include user name & institution as visible as possible in the messages. –We use it for filing and retrieving old requests We need the LFS form in every request Filling the forms: –Tick with X marks –Please do not use colours. Not readable in printouts. Updates of previous extractions: –If you give the name & institution we do not need the form filled again Livio will replace Jonny in a few weeks !! Reminder: dispatching user requests
