What is the difference between the indicative and the subjunctive? Indicative used to talk about actions that are a definite reality- whether they occurred in the past, present or future. Remember that the indicative tenses can be referred to as C.A.R.T. tenses. Their actions Subjunctive Used to express actions that are desired and hoped for but not necessarily real.

Examples Indicative Statement (CART): Our teacher loves to speak Spanish. Subjunctive Statement (may or may not happen): Our teacher suggests that we learn to speak Spanish.

How to form a Subjunctive verb: 1.Take the present tense “yo” form 2.Drop the –o 3.Add the opposite endings (ar verbs get –e endings / er/ir verbs get –a endings) AR verbsER/IR verbs eemosa amos eséisas áis eena an

Stem Changes in Subjunctive The stem changes are still the same: e-ie, e-i, and o-ue. There is one difference with the Subjunctive. AR / ER verbs: only stem change in the boot IR verbs: stem change in the boot AND an additional change outside the boot. AR/ER IR e-ie STAY e-ie E-I ADDITIONAL REGULAR! e-i O-U CHANGE!!! o-ue o-ue

Remember back to the example sentence and why we use subjunctive??? In order to use the subjunctive you MUST have… 2 different people and 1 WEIRDO verb/phrase (they will be separated by “que”)
