personal back ground ●Jacques Cartier was born in 1491 in saint-malo a fishing town. ●Jacques sailed along the eastern coast of north america in 1524. ●in 1534 king Francis the king of France heard about cartiers abilities as a navigator and a sailor. ●the king wanted to send an expedition to find the northwest passage. ●the king hoped that cartier would find new land and claim it for france.
