Independent Research (IR) Work independently researching topic of choice Provides real life skills: interviews, contacting people outside the school College level reading, writing, and researching Helps with college applications: letter sent to colleges

Intern-Mentor (IM) Pick a topic of your choice and work with a mentor at a site for the year Helps with searching through career choices Experience outside of the school Get a feel for the outside world

Requirements Independent Research/ Intern-Mentor 32 annotated bibliographies 32 annotated bibliographies December presentations December presentations 10-15 pg. paper 10-15 pg. paper Intern Mentor must provide own transportation and average 5 hrs. a week at the site per credit.

Interest When I first came into the class I wanted to do something with technologies I was also very into sports So I decided to merge the two into a research question

Research Question Why are certain innovations in sports considered fair while others are banned, and how do these technologies give an advantage to athletes. Studying different innovations and how it impacts athletic performance Studying different innovations and how it impacts athletic performance

Adviser My current advisor’s name is Cameron Waldman and he is a researcher at the Hastings Center “The Center's mission is to address fundamental ethical issues in the areas of health, medicine, technology and the environment as they affect individuals, communities, and societies.”

Sports Technologies Certain technologies are considered fair play while others are banned Ex.: cooling glove and steroids Ex.: cooling glove and steroids
