Strengthened David in his time of need Expected to play a role in future kingdom of David 16 And Saul’s son Jonathan went to David at Horesh and helped him find strength in God. 17 “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “My father Saul will not lay a hand on you. You will be king over Israel, and I will be second to you. Even my father Saul knows this.” 18 The two of them made a covenant before the L ORD. Then Jonathan went home, but David remained at Horesh. 1 Samuel 23:16-18

10. Death of Nabal 37 Then in the morning, when Nabal was sober, his wife told him all these things, and his heart failed him and he became like a stone. 38 About ten days later, the L ORD struck Nabal and he died. 1 Samuel 25:37-28

11. Saul’s death 18 Because you did not obey the L ORD or carry out his fierce wrath against the Amalekites, the L ORD has done this to you today. 19 The L ORD will hand over both Israel and you to the Philistines, and tomorrow you and your sons will be with me. The L ORD will also hand over the army of Israel to the Philistines.” 1 Samuel 28:18-19

12. 6 The L ORD our God said to us at Horeb, “You have stayed long enough at this mountain. 7 Break camp and advance into the hill country of the Amorites; go to all the neighboring peoples in the Arabah, in the mountains, in the western foothills, in the Negev and along the coast, to the land of the Canaanites and to Lebanon, as far as the great river, the Euphrates. 8 See, I have given you this land. Go in and take possession of the land that the L ORD swore he would give to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—and to their descendants after them.” Deuteronomy 1:6-8

14. 14 If you fear the L ORD and serve and obey him and do not rebel against his commands, and if both you and the king who reigns over you follow the L ORD your God—good! 15 But if you do not obey the L ORD, and if you rebel against his commands, his hand will be against you, as it was against your fathers. 1 Samuel 12:14-15

15. 23 As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the L ORD by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right. 24 But be sure to fear the L ORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you. 25 Yet if you persist in doing evil, both you and your king will be swept away.” 1 Samuel 12:23-25

You have rejected the word of the L ORD, and the L ORD has rejected you as king over Israel!” 27 As Samuel turned to leave, Saul caught hold of the hem of his robe, and it tore. 28 Samuel said to him, “The L ORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today and has given it to one of your neighbors—to one better than you. 1 Samuel 15:26-28

17. 3 First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed.

18. 7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. 8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:3-8

Who can lay a hand on the L ORD ’s anointed and be guiltless? 1 Samuel 26:9

20. But the king’s officials were not willing to raise a hand to strike the priests of the L ORD. 18 The king then ordered Doeg, “You turn and strike down the priests.” So Doeg the Edomite turned and struck them down. That day he killed eighty- five men who wore the linen ephod. 1 Samuel 22:17-18
