Chris Price TSC Chairperson TSC Composition & Governance 1

OPNFV Governance A Business (Board) and Technical (TSC) governance structure separates business decisions from meritocratic, technical decisions Board Audit & Finance Committee IP & Legal Committee Marketing Committee C&C Committee Strategic Planning Committee Technical Steering Committee (TSC) Projects Financial oversightOversight of all marketing: web, PR/AR, branding, etc. Policy oversight Projects drive code development, testing, integration and reference platform releases TSC sets technical direction for the overall Project Board sets business direction and scope for the Project Certification and compliance oversight Strategic direction oversight

Technical governance The TSC exists as the only recognized entity in the OPNFV technical community with authority to make decisions outside of a project. –Currently manned exclusively by platinum designates –Includes oversight of: Contributor and community guidelines Project lifecycle Release management Infrastructure Budget & community engagement Industry engagement 12/06/2016 Projects drive code development, testing, integration and reference platform releases TSC sets technical direction for the overall Project

We Need To Work Together

feedback@opnfv.orgfeedback@opnfv.org input on technical governance Establish a meritocratic TSC: –More engaged with projects –Comprised of active engineers interested in governance Define a “product management” focused entity: –Helping identify platform feature needs (gap analysis) –May be an evolution of the SPC, but with more technical members Introduce Technical Working Groups – TWG’s –With a chairman and charter on specific areas 12/06/2016

TSC discussion on technical governance TSC discussion resolved the following points: –A meritocratic TSC is not contended, “merit” has yet to be defined. Project engagement seen as a priority –“Product groups” have been shown to be ineffective in open source communities If a “product group” was contributing in some way it may be helpful. –One technical committee function provides clarity to our community. Prefer not to diversify decision functions across the community 12/06/2016

feedback@opnfv.orgfeedback@opnfv.org - further topics of feedback Help projects establish good development practices –Help them upstream –Clarify project roles and goals –Terminate idle projects Establish better upstream coordination methods –Co-ordinate on key topics across consortia Reduce the effort required to work with installers Increase the focus on VNF (application) execution 12/06/2016

Chris Price TSC Chairperson TSC Update 8

TSC update Community activity and focus items –Working group focus areas Colorado update –Milestones and progress Summit preparation –Design summit overview 9

OPNFV community focus areas Working groups forming to address big ticket items –Testing working group: Release criteria, metrics & automation focus areas –Infrastructure working group Lab coordination, management, metrics and automation CI and deployment pipeline structure and alignment Work is emerging on upstream engagement and process development 12/06/2016

Colorado update The Colorado release date is tracking toward September 22 nd –Initial target for August –A 6 month cadence is deemed feasible tracking September/March releases. August/February coincides too closely with key holiday periods. Many projects working through deliverable and cross project planning –Project dependencies addressed as a priority task –A strong community focus on establishing a “post Brahmaputra” process improvement has delayed some milestone measurements tracking to September Final release plan yet to be approved by the TSC.

Colorado update cont. Colorado process focus on addressing Brahmaputra lessons –Scenario focused planning phases (link)link) –Milestones developed for end to end process execution (link)link 12/06/2016

OPNFV Design Summit Preparation The OPNFV Design summit precedes the OPNFV Summit –Community driven, targeting onboarding and collaboration Design Summit Planning –Three tracks comprising: One presentation and tutorial track Two developer/collaboration break-out tracks –Developer reception planned for Monday night –Design summit proposals CFP remains open until Friday (27 th May )Design summit proposals CFP 12/06/2016
