definition it is a form of tragedy mighty popular in the Elizabethan and Jacobean time periods. most popular tragedies are Thomas Kyd's the Spanish tragedy and William Shakespeare's "Hamlet".

Parts of a revenge play a secret murder of a ruler by a bad guy. the victim haunts someone close to them the bad guy and good guy secretly fight each other with out one another knowing (mysterious deaths appear) the good guy slips in and out of reality violence comes apon everyone toward the end during a ceremony or a festival. the good guy dies at the end.
