Strategies for the M4 Lottery u Neuro taken early allows more flexibility for USMLE 2 CK & CS u Subinternship taken early can be helpful for residency application but not necessary u Focus on electives most important to you u You will probably change your schedule when September rolls around so don’t worry about perfect schedule u You do not need to fill an entire schedule in lottery

Elective Requirements u 28 weeks of electives u No more than 8 weeks in a subspecialty for credit u No more than 10 weeks away at LCME or ACGME programs for credit u No more than 3 two-week electives for credit u “Flex elective” requirement (8 weeks medical, 4 weeks surgical, 4 weeks ED/ICU) u Full Schedule in place by January 15

12. Electives u Research electives for credit must be approved by OMSP (4 weeks credit for a project that will extend longer). Must be with Rush faculty. u Can take more than 78 weeks of clinical rotations u Some electives always require course director approval for enrollment u 4-week add/drop requirement (a few are 8-week) u Away electives may be on different calendar u Away electives will count toward the “flex elective” requirement

21. VSAS – Visiting Student Application Service u Second year of program u Will be used by 63 schools this year u Loyola is only Chicago area school u Information available at http://www.aamc.org/vsas

23. Away Electives Paperwork! u Once you confirm that an away rotation will take place, you must notify RMC_electives@rush.edu to have this rotation entered into your Oasis schedule u You must make sure the RMC evaluation is provided to the away team and returned to us
