Game design I promise this is the only Hunger Games “Game maker” joke I’m going to make
2
Math Creating a quality, playable, and engaging game involves a small amount of mathematics 1.Numbers 2.Spatial sense 3.Logic 4.Statistics
3
Number sense Your game might involve…. Counting, ordering, or combining Adding up numbers on a dice/measurements Understanding fractions and scale How can I translate my plans to the robotics board? Making estimates About how long will this game take to play? Only about 7 weeks left until I never have to see Mr. Nelson again
4
Spatial concepts Your game might involve… Drawing simple figures or creating an environment How big of a picture do I need to print so the robots can look like Donald Trump? Using geometry to design a board or playing field My racetrack needs to be an oval with certain dimensions…
5
Logic Your game might involve… Reading and writing instructions Are my rules clear? Is my game win-able? Reasoning How can I do better at this game? What’s the quickest way to get to the goal?
6
Statistics Your game might involve… Understanding fairness and bias Is my game fair for all? Ideas of randomness and variability Which robot is likely to win? Will human influence need to be considered? Simple probability How likely is it that I’ll run into this problem…
7
For your game… (typed) 1.What is the overall goal of your game? How do you win? 2.What are the rules and directions? 3.What objects or parts of your system will be in use? 4.What will the environment be like? How will the game be set up? 5.Do you have a prototype? Any visual for your game? 6.How will your game involve mathematics?

Homework Respond to the following prompt in two paragraphs, comparing and contrasting while using appropriate mathematical terms from the notes. Research and/or play another game of your choice. Compare and contrast it with the game that you designed. What mathematical properties are used in the game you researched? How does that compare to your game? What is the logic behind the design of the game you researched? How does that compare to your game?
