MY BIO BY AMARA WASHINGTON

MY BACKGROUND! I was born and raised in Ohio, with my mother, father, and five brothers and sisters, and a step brother who visited often. I always had a passion to teach children. When I was younger, I would help my youngest brother learn how to spell, do math, and retain information by creating songs.

AS AN ADULT When I turned 18, I joined the United States Army and served for 6 ½ years. I was also sent to Iraq for the “Enduring Iraq Freedom” war, where I stayed for a year and a half. Now, I live with my four children whom ages are 13, 8, 6, and 2, my dog, and fish. I now work taking care of senior citizens in their homes, while I’m going through school.

EXPERIENCE AND INTEREST I have worked in a child care facility for a couple of years as a young adult. I have just completed a double bachelors degree here at Ashford University in Sociology, and Early Childhood Education. I have a host of nieces and nephews that I have helped raise from babies to young adults. My interest include gong to the movies, dancing, swimming, and hanging around friends and loved ones.

GRADE SCHOOL I ATTENDED As a child, my parents moved around a lot. I attended at least 6 different elementary schools. I attended one middle and high school which were public schools. All throughout school, I was apart of the choir. I sang from the fourth grade through the 12 th grade. When I was in the 7 th grade, my choir instructor took us to a group facility with children who had mental and physical disabilities. We sang for them and them afterwards, we set up a carnival for them and helped them with activities. This was something that made a lasting impression on my life. I felt it was my calling to work with children. I love to watch a child develop, and mature in their knowledge. I love to see them smile knowing they have accomplished a goal or obstacle.

MY FUTURE When I complete my degree here at Ashford, I will have obtained a Masters of Education with a specialization in Early Childhood Education. As mentioned before, I love working with children. I plan to own a child care facility, or become a director of one, until I’m able to purchase my own. My other passion would be to become a preschool teacher at a childcare facility or school.

MY MASTERS DEGREE Obtaining a Maters degree in Education will benefit me in so many ways. With this degree, I will be able to obtain and have security in the position of my choosing. I want to provide the best level of education and care as possible to my students. In order to do so, I need to gain as much knowledge as possible to help them achieve their goals.

FAMOUS QUOTE “Those who have the privilege to know, has the duty to act” Einstein I feel this quote is very inspirational because it says so much in so few words. Not everyone has the means or the privilege to learn, so if you get that opportunity, then you should share your knowledge with others!
