Richard Nixon 1.Who was Richard Nixon? - President in 1968 who improved relations with two of the largest communist countries, China and Russia; countries began trading with U.S again and Russia signed agreement to limit nuclear weapons each country made

What happened in the Watergate scandal? - Several of Nixon’s campaign workers broke into the Watergate building to steal information from the Democrats; in 1974 Nixon resigned as President because of this scandal. 3. What event caused inflation in the 1970s? -oil producing counties produced less oil so oil prices went up; this increased the price of fuel simply because the U.S took Israel’s side when Egypt and Syria decided to attack Israel

Rights Movements of the 1970s 4. What amendment did the National Organization of Women want to make to the Constitution? - The Equal Rights Amendment, a national Law that said that men and women would be treated equally

In what ways did the women’s movement succeed? - more women served in state legislatures; most states adopted laws requiring that men and women be paid equally for the same kind of work; many women began holding jobs that had been open only to men. 6. What were two goals of the Indian Rights Movement? - American Indians wanted more control over their reservations; they wanted the U.S government to honor its treaties with them

Jimmy Carter 8. Who was Jimmy Carter? -Jimmy Carter was the 39 th President from Georgia; democrat; promised to end all scandal in U.S government; awarded Nobel Peace Prize; humanitarian

9. What did President Carter do at Camp David? - he held peace talks between leaders of Israel and Egypt (two countries who had been enemies for more than 30 years); they singed a peace agreement which was known as the Camp David Accord

Who was Ronald Reagan? -Ronald Reagan was 40 th president; believed that gov’t programs did not work and the people had become too dependent on them; believed that the gov’t should let business make money w/o much regulation; increased military spending and created budget deficit; ended Cold War

George Bush Sr. 15. Who was George Bush? What did he do? -41 st President asked other countries in the United Nations to form coalition to stop Iraq; credited with ending Persian Gulf War; after war many people lost jobs and economy stopped growing

28. How did Bush finally win the election of 2000? - the Supreme Court declared him the winner of Florida’s popular vote; winning the popular vote meant that Bush won Florida’s electoral votes, and won the election

Explain the term “War on Terrorism”. -Bush asked for laws that would make it easier to find terrorists in the U.S. we know this as the Patriot Act
