Can This Be Our Program?
12
“Make Every Day a Championship Day” In my six years at GBHS, I’ve seen a decline in the number of girls who love the game of basketball. This comes from burnout, the change in the season, changes in family and friends, etc. It is an expectation that every player who has made the CHOICE to be a part of our program makes an effort to have a positive attitude, shows a passion for the game that is unrivaled, and works to make every day and every minute count.
13
SCHOOL COMES FIRST – less than 1% of HS girls get an athletic scholarship! Please let your coaches know ahead of time if you need to stay after school for help with a class or if you need to makeup some work. Please make being on time a priority. Less playing time will result from poor decisions. Missing practice completely may affect your starts and/or playing time. If you can’t make it to practice, please let your coach know early! Get Your Priorities Straight!
14
Playing Time It is the philosophy of the GBHS Girls Basketball program to build a winning, successful program. The coaches will put the combinations that will best accomplish this goal on the court. Equal playing time is not guaranteed on any level! If you feel that playing time is an issue, please discuss your concerns with your daughter first. She is at every practice and game and sees more than you do. If that does not resolve the issue, please feel free to watch our practices from the track. You can then schedule a meeting between you, the coach, and the player to find ways we can help your daughter be successful.
15
MHSAA Rules emphasis - 2011 CONCUSSIONS If a player hits her head during a game and has any concussion-like symptoms, she CANNOT go back into the game until evaluated and cleared by a medical professional. Please keep in mind that our coaching staff values our players’ safety above all else!
16
24 – hour Rule After games, emotions run high for everyone. Please do not discuss concerns with any coach directly following a game. The next day, if you still feel strongly about an issue, schedule a time to meet with the coach.
17
Typical Playing Rotations for Basketball Players 1-5: Starters Play the most minutes, will play more in close games than others, leaders on the court Players 6, 7, and 8: Role Players Could be a defensive or 3 pt. specialist, give the starters a break, have not beat out a starter for her spot Players 9 -12: Role and Practice Players Will play more in games that we are winning, role is to make others get better in practice It will vary with different game situations.
18
Communication During a Game Communication with your child during a game while they are either on the bench or on the floor is strongly discouraged. This is the coach’s time to direct the team. Unfortunately, if the parent-child communication (coaching) continues, the player may be penalized. Example: Parent sits on bottom bleacher and coaches child through game/situations pulling on the player’s attention.
19
Looking @ Stats The scorebook and statistics taken are used to help the coaching staff and players. Parents do not have access to these materials! Our program is of a “team first” mentality. If stats are needed for college recruiting, please see Coach Noll. New technology allows us to put together a “highlight” reel to send to college coaches!!
20
Avoid Getting sick Colds spread quickly through teams because of the amount of contact we have with each other. Wash your hands often! DO NOT share towels or water bottles! Drink plenty of water Make sure you are getting enough sleep Eat good pre-game meals! NO PEANUT PRODUCTS!

Can we overcome Our Deepest Fears? Do we have the motivation and stamina to have a great year?
