Jesus found deep teaching in the common stuff of our world. Dirt, seeds, weeds, and trees became the topics for stories that shared a lot about God’s kingdom of grace and glory. Many of us have lost a close connection with the rhythms of agriculture and the patterns of farming life. Jesus’ parables may seem foreign in our world. But there is much to learn from these stories. Let’s roll up our sleeves, dig in and see how things grow as we go green with Jesus. As Life Happens Going Green with Jesus Seeds

Our text-The Parable of the Mustard Seed 30Again he said, "What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? 31It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest seed you plant in the ground. 32Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds of the air can perch in its shade." 33With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand. 34He did not say anything to them without using a parable. But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything Seeds

What happens when seeds are planted on hard ground, among thorns or on fertile soil? This portion or a parable by Jesus relates to our walk and faith in Him. The parables-Jesus’ words are given to us to clarify, help us understand and convict us!

The parables were intended to call the attention to the word of Christ. By Jesus instructing us, we are able to share this divine message with others; as candles are lighted, not to be covered, but to be placed on a candlestick, that we may give light to a room. The parable of the good seed shows that the kingdom of God makes progress in the world! Let the word of Christ have its place in our souls, and it will show itself in our conversation. It grows gradually… first the blade; then the ear; after that the full corn in the ear. When it is sprung up, it will go forward Seeds A commentary by Matthew Henry
