7 Determining Risk Low Risk Activities that involve low risk and less probability of injuries. With proper planning, these activities are generally considered safe. Ex. Board Games, Coffee Houses Moderate Risk Activities that are less likely to result in serious injury. Considering possible scenarios and making adjustments helps lessen risks. Ex. 9 ETBU Alcohol, Drug, Tobacco, and Weapons Policy The ETBU campus, all other university owned or leased property, and all university sponsored activities – on or off campus – are tobacco, alcohol, drug, and weapon free. Organization activities are university sponsored activities. 10 ETBU Alcohol Sanctions Student Organizations violating ETBU’s alcohol policy may have their charters revoked and additional disciplinary action may be taken. Individual disciplinary sanctions may also be incurred. 12 ETBU Weapons Policy Firearms and other weapons are not permitted at any location on campus. Possession or use of any weapons on the University campus is in direct violation of Texas State Law, Marshall City Ordinance, and University Policy. 14 Weapons, Explosive Devices PLACES WEAPONS PROHIBITED. (a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly possesses or goes with a firearm, illegal knife, club, or prohibited weapon (1) on the physical premises of a school or educational institution, any grounds or building on which an activity sponsored by a school or educational institution is being conducted, or a passenger transportation vehicle of a school or educational institution, whether the school or educational institution is public or private, unless pursuant to written regulations or written authorization of the institution. 16 ETBU Hazing Policy It is the policy of East Texas Baptist University to enforce the state mandate prohibiting hazing.

17 ETBU Hazing Policy Hazing is defined as any intentional, knowing, or reckless act occurring on or off the campus of ETBU, by one person alone or in action with others, directed against a student, that endangers their mental or physical health or safety for the purposes of pledging, being initiated into, affiliating with, holding office in, or maintaining membership in any organization whose members are or include ETBU students.

19 ETBU Hazing Policy b. any type of physical activity, such as sleep deprivation, exposure to the elements, confinement in a small space, calisthenics or other activity that subjects that student to an unreasonable risk of harm or that adversely affects the mental or physical health or safety of the student; c. any activity involving consumption of a food, liquid, alcoholic beverage, liquor, drug, or other substance which subjects the student to an unreasonable risk of harm or which adversely affects the mental or physical health or safety of the student; b. any type of physical activity, such as sleep deprivation, exposure to the elements, confinement in a small space, calisthenics or other activity that subjects that student to an unreasonable risk of harm or that adversely affects the mental or physical health or safety of the student; c. any activity involving consumption of a food, liquid, alcoholic beverage, liquor, drug, or other substance which subjects the student to an unreasonable risk of harm or which adversely affects the mental or physical health or safety of the student;

20 ETBU Hazing Policy d. any activity that intimidates or threatens the student with ostracism, that subjects that student to extreme mental stress, shame, or humiliation, or that adversely affects the mental health or dignity of the student or entering or remaining registered in an educational institution, or that may reasonably be expected to cause a student to leave the organization or the institution rather than submit to acts described herein; e. any activity that induces, causes, or requires the student to perform a duty or task which involves a violation of the Penal Code. d. any activity that intimidates or threatens the student with ostracism, that subjects that student to extreme mental stress, shame, or humiliation, or that adversely affects the mental health or dignity of the student or entering or remaining registered in an educational institution, or that may reasonably be expected to cause a student to leave the organization or the institution rather than submit to acts described herein; e. any activity that induces, causes, or requires the student to perform a duty or task which involves a violation of the Penal Code.

22 Personal Hazing Offense, cont. - has firsthand knowledge of the planning of a specific hazing incident involving a student in an educational institution, or firsthand knowledge that a specific hazing incident has occurred, and knowingly fails to report knowledge in writing to the Dean of Students of other appropriate officials of the institution

25 ETBU Sexual Harassment Policy Sexual Harassment is a form of sexual discrimination prohibited by civil rights laws and University policy. Sexual harassment is defined as unwelcome sexual advances, request for sexual favors, or other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature, submission to which is made a term or condition of any right, privilege, power or immunity, either explicitly or implicitly. Sexual Harassment is a form of sexual discrimination prohibited by civil rights laws and University policy. 26 ETBU Sexual Harassment Policy Sexual harassment may range from unthinking and often unintentional verbal denigration of a person on the basis of gender to actual physical assault.

Contracts must be reviewed by the VP for Student Affairs and then the VP for Administration and Finance. The arrangements for a speaker or performance, the conduct of the speaker or performer on campus, and the good order of the activity are the concern of both the inviting group and the University. The privilege to invite speakers and performers carries with it important responsibilities to insure that the proper objectives of the University are not compromised. Students are not authorized to sign contracts on behalf of their organizations. Contracts must be reviewed by the VP for Student Affairs and then the VP for Administration and Finance. 33 Information on Contracts The University cannot be held responsible for accidents and/or injuries incurred through activities on or off campus sponsored by recognized student organizations. The organization inviting a speaker or performer to the campus will be financially responsible for any and all damages proximately caused by acts of misfeasance or malfeasance on the part of the speaker/performer or those acting in concert with him or her. (See ETBU Policies and Procedures Manual for entire policy) The University cannot be held responsible for accidents and/or injuries incurred through activities on or off campus sponsored by recognized student organizations. 34 ETBU Travel Policy It is the policy of East Texas Baptist University that all students traveling under University sponsorship either receive University provided transportation or sign a liability waiver indemnifying the University.

35 ETBU Travel Policy An Application for Approval of Off-Campus Trips must be submitted by the trip sponsor to the Office of Student Affairs at least three days prior to the group’s departure date. Each request is acted upon by the Vice President for Student Affairs and forwarded to the Vice President for Academic Affairs when appropriate. A copy of the request will be forwarded to the trip sponsor. The names of all students participating in the trip must be submitted to the Office of Student Affairs. An Application for Approval of Off-Campus Trips must be submitted by the trip sponsor to the Office of Student Affairs at least three days prior to the group’s departure date. Non-academic student groups not receiving University funding, traveling without University funding and not being transported in University vehicles are not required to file a travel request.
