Status of PSD simulation in Shine Oleg Petukhov Institute for Nuclear Research, Moscow NA61 Analysis/Software/Calibration meeting 11.02.2014, Warsaw

PSD simulation goals Simulate particle hits which deposit energy inside PSD calorimeter across 44 modules x 10 sections each.

Standalone PSD simulation PSD simulation is done in VMC, including: Realistic detector geometry in C++ code or ROOT files (NML export possible) Geant4 transport code External generators: Shield, URQMD, etc... (input from ASCII file) Output (energy deposition in each of 440 sections) in the ROOT file Simulations completed with PSD simulator: Response to protons Estimation of energy resolution Ion interaction in beam pipe Distribution of spectator spots Optimization of PSD geometry Fully functional simulation in standalone mode.

PSD simulation in Shine Development split into “Digitizer” and “Simulator” parts Simulator suspended due to technical difficulties and lack of manpower Digitizer to be completed by the end of February (again)

Simulator Shine integration started: PSD simulator module LuminanceSG provided by M. Szuba, simulating with VMC. Code from the standalone simulation copied into a development branch of Shine. Sources available on lxplus: /afs/cern.ch/work/p/petukhov/public/Shine_sim.tgz

Digitizer Goals Input: (simulated) calorimeter energy response (per section) Output: PSD electronics waveforms

Digitizer Algorithm Calibration table (date / run number dependent) Algorithm tweaks (time bins, peak width)

Thank you!
