Big Yellow Taxi Using open D
2
There are only a few chords in the song Start by tuning the guitar to open D – notes from low to high are D, A, D, F#, A, D Play the 4 th string open and lower the 2 nd string to a D, do the same with the 6 th string. Next lower the 2 nd string to an A by playing the 5 th string open and lowering the 2 nd string to one octave above the A at the 5 th string. Lastly lower the 3 rd or G string to F# by matching it to the 4 th string 4 th fret!!!! Strum the open strings and you have a D major chord. Pretty cool!! To play a G major chord just barre the 5 th fret. For A major the 7 th fret.

The song can be played in the following 3 ways Very simply – we will do that first. Just D, G and A that is it. So you will just play all open strings for D, 5 th fret barre for G and 7 th fret barre for A. Next add in the 6 th chords. It would then be 2 beats of each chord followed by 2 beats of the 6 th of that chord. Next start adding in the more advanced voicings. In this manner it is almost an factor of 10 variations. Start with the E major 7 and just keep adding.
