Dramaturge O A special consultant who provides specific, in-depth knowledge and literary resources to a director, producer, or entire theatre company.

Responsibilities O Read and evaluate plays for consideration. O Research literary, historical, or sociological questions related to a play.

Dramaturgy Things to consider: O Include any definitions for any words you do not currently understand. O Explain any historical references that are made in the play. O Explain any colloquialisms or dialect words that occur in the text. O Explain any indirect inferences made in the text to outside texts or concepts. O Explain any awards or accolades the play or playwright has received, if any. O Provide examples of time period appropriate design elements.

Your Task as a Dramaturge O Read a play! O SCRIPT: O Find references in the text you are unfamiliar with, then define and or explain them. (Provide 10-15 words / terms) O WARDROBE: O Find images representative of fashion design of the time period. (Provide at least 12 images)

Your Task as a Dramaturge O Read a play! O SET DESIGN: O Find images representative of architectural design elements of the time period. You will want to research wardrobe, architecture, and other cultural images. (Provide at least 12 images) O PLAY HISTORY: O Find a critique, an article or advertising regarding a production of the selected play or the selected playwright. (Provide images and biographical information) O Submit findings to Jones via e-mail (steven.jones@cobbk12.org) or flash drive.steven.jones@cobbk12.org
