In 1517 a priest called Martin Luther objected to how the Catholic Church ran the religion. He listed 95 objections he had. In 312 the Emperor Constantine became a Christian and so Rome helped the spread of Christianity. 1000 years later a split happened between East and West. This split involved different ideas. In 1534, Henry VIII broke away from the Pope and became the Head of his own Church The Church of England. Since then different groups (denominations) felt the need to worship God in different ways. 7. “Abortion is Murder”  I agree that abortion is murder. I believe that a foetus is a living thing, from the moment of conception (when the sperm meets the egg). Therefore if it is a living thing and that life is ended deliberately, this is by definition ‘murder’. (3 marks)  Christians have different views on abortion. Most Christians believe that life begins at conception and therefore abortion being a deliberate ending of a pregnancy is taking away that life. Christians believe in the sanctity of life and that all life is important and sacred, therefore to take a life created by God could be seen as murder.  Alternative – Buddhists would agree that abortion is murder as they believe in the cycle of life, birth and rebirth meaning that a foetus is a living thing. By taking this life away, ie is murder and stopping the potential human life from taking place. Although they agree it is murder, some Buddhists follow the Dalai Lama’s view that the most loving thing to do is to take that life away, if it were to be severely disabled for example.
